Gates:Miscellaneous Unused Content
This page is for miscellaneous removed and unused content in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity that doesn't fit the other unused content pages.
Unused Main Menu Graphics
Illustrations
Two unused Main Menu illustrations can be found in the files of Gates to Infinity. One shows Oshawott, Tepig, Emolga and Dunsparce in Paradise in Companion Mode while the other shows a party consisting of Snivy, Axew, Carracosta and Gothorita opening a chest while inside a dungeon. The events depicted in the latter never happen in the actual game.
Additionally, all of the Main Menu top screen background illustrations are larger than the screen itself, meaning the left-most and right-most parts of the pictures can't be seen in-game.
A bigger version of the Team Attack background illustration was officially published by Nintendo. In this version, each of the four Pokémon in the party has a Team Badge, which is necessary to perform a Team Attack, and other accessories. This version doesn't appear in the game and can't be found in the files.
Icons
There are two unused Main Menu icons. One features the Bittercold. It doesn't appear on the Main Menu even after it is defeated. The other unused icon is a provisional icon that wasn't meant to be used. It uses a different style compared to the other icons. It has a 仮 kanji, and Gurdurr seems to be in the background, suggesting it may be based on an earlier version of the Gurdurr icon.
Back Button
An unused back button meant for the Main Menu.
Unused consequence of failing an Adventure
A line in the file message/inc_all.bin reads: "What? All of your carried items have become Plain Seeds!". This is an unused consequence of failing an Adventure which exists in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team.
Other Unused Paradise Facilities
Other than Lone Diver and Treasure Shop, the game has more unused Facilities.
- shop_rare_rescue: Unknown.
- shop_special_merchant_throw: A shop that sells projectiles.
- shop_dispatch: Unknown.
- shop_special_product: Unknown.
Unused female partner
At the start of the Japanese version, the player can choose wether the partner is male or female. This choice was removed in the North American and European versions. If the script/menu/menu_ground_chara_select.lua script from the Japanese version is restored to the translated versions, the sex selection is fully functional. The English text is however mistranslated, as it asks the sex of the player rather than the partner. In the other European languages the text generally doesn't reflect the choice, however some of the lines are different.

Other unused text and media
While other lua scripts for Gridless Floors match their Japanese name, the filenames for Ragged Mountain scripts are named "sankankaidou". The Japanese name of the dungeon is (Japanese: でこぼこ山), so the expected filename would have been "dekobokoyama". It appears the name of the dungeon was changed during development. The supposed prototype name translates to "mountain road", while the final name translates to "ragged mountain".
Many of the files in the message folders are empty, and many of them include or exclusively have the following line
[M:DEBUG]If you see this message, please report[R]it to the developers. |
A similar line can be found in message/outline.bin
[M:DEBUG]If this message is displayed,[R]submit a bug report. |
wallpaper_sub01.img is a picture with several vertical bars of various colors with the word "DEBUG" on top.

There are two pictures for each possible partner: bg/im01_01a_pika.img, bg/im01_01a_pika_a.img, bg/im01_01b_tsuta.img, bg/im01_01b_tsuta_a.img, bg/im01_01c_poka.img, bg/im01_01c_poka_a.img, bg/im01_01d_miju.img, bg/im01_01d_miju_a.img, bg/im01_01e_kiba.img and bg/im01_01e_kiba_a.img. All of them look the same: four vertical bars of various colors. It has been speculated that these pictures might have been intended to appear as the background picture while selecting the partner.

Unused icons appear in the game. These include an "unused" kanji icon (File:Unused kanji icon.png) and a "de" (for debug) katakana icon (File:Debug katakana icon.png). These icons are what the game displays [M:UNUSED] and [M:DEBUG] as.
Unused error messages in message/common.bin, likely related to the DLC:
[CN][M:UNUSED]The SD Card is not inserted.[R][R][CN]Could not load music.[R][CN]Music play ended. [CN][M:UNUSED]The downloadable content is corrupted.[R][R][CN]Could not load music.[R][CN]Music play ended. |
In the final build of the game, the player can't leave Paradise Center while the Request Gate is open. This unused line about Paradise facilities can be found in the files:
[M:UNUSED] You cannot change any facilities[R]while the Request Gate is open. |
Language selection text immediately follows (in the final build of the game the language depends on the system settings and can be changed at any moment)
ENGLISH FRENCH GERMAN ITALIAN SPANISH Please choose a language. |
There is also a duplicate of an identical error message that is actually used (without the unused kanji icon).
[M:UNUSED][CN]The SD Card was removed. |
Something related to StreetPass:
message/menu_quest_cec.bin |
---|
[M:UNUSED] Get a StreetPass request first!
[M:UNUSED] You don't have a StreetPass request! [M:UNUSED] Please set up your StreetPass Box! [M:UNUSED] You can't try it any more! [M:UNUSED] Added [M:UNUSED] Failed [M:UNUSED] Add this request for StreetPass? [M:UNUSED] Added to request list [M:UNUSED] Discarded [M:UNUSED] Add the StreetPass request to your list? |
References to an unused text speed option can be found in message/common.bin:
[M:UNUSED]Text Speed [M:UNUSED]Slow [M:UNUSED]Normal [M:UNUSED]Fast [M:UNUSED]It changes the text speed. |
The placement of the lines suggests this was going to be at the top of the options menu, above the option to change the type of windows being used.
Text
In the Japanese version of the game, some of the debug and unused text is blanked. This is not the case in the Japanese version of the demo.
Codename
The codename for the game is "paradise", in reference to Pokémon Paradise.
