For the lore page, see Pkmn:Devolution.

Devolution (Japanese: 退化) is a game mechanic in Nintendo 3DS Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity. When a Pokémon devolves, it goes down to its lowest evolutionary stage. Enemy Pokémon devolve when a Devolve Orb is used on them.

Note that using a Devolve Orb on a Pokémon doesn't just devolve it, but it also reduces its level to 1, even if the Pokémon didn't devolve.

Strategy

Devolving may be useful for recruiting Pokémon whose previous stage is harder to find or recruit. It can also provide an easy way to defeat Kecleon after stealing.
