A Waterway.

Waterways (Japanese: ???) are a dungeon mechanic in Nintendo Switch/Steam Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island.

Waterways are rivers that pass through the floor of a dungeon, transporting 1-tile rafts on a current. The rafts may have items on them, and items may stand on them. Shiren can also stand on the them to transport Shiren to a different location, or to use them as bridges to reach the other side of a room. When the raft reaches the end of the waterway, it gets sucked in by a whirlpool, and spits it out at the whirlpool at the beginning of the waterway. When this happens, the raft may also have an item even if it didn't before. Items that fall in the water will be transported by the current, even without a raft. Trying to place a Trap on a Waterway raft makes the Trap disappear.
