Synthesis (Japanese: 合成) is a mechanic that allows players to combine certain items together in Nintendo Switch/Steam Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island.

Synthesis is performed by inserting the items in a Synthesis Pot or by tossing them into the maw of monsters from the the Mixer Family.

Synthesis is similar to Cross-Mixing, which allows players to transfer Runes from items that aren't Weapons or Shields onto weapons or Shields. Cross Mixing can only be done via the Mixer Family.

Weapons and Shields

Weapons and Shields can be combined with other weapons and Shields respectively to obtain their Runes or Upgrades. The base item is the one that is inserted first, the resulting item is the base item with the added Upgrades and Runes of everything that came after.

Staves

Staves of the same kind can also be synthesized to obtain a single Staff with the combined amount of uses (for example, synthesizing two Sluggish Staff [5] together results in a Sluggish Staff [10]), which saves valuable inventory space, T the equally valuable slot from a Synthesis Pot.
