Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer: Platina (Japanese: 不思議のダンジョン 風来のシレンPlatina) is a Shiren the Wanderer cell phone title originally released for the Japanese audience on July 2, 2008. It features 5 99-floor dungeons, three times as many monsters as previous releases, saving to SD cards for the first time, and more. Returning from Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer: Mega 2 are the popular Rescue and "Live Viewing" functions.

Gameplay Elements

Characters

• (Japanese: ハチ)

Event characters make appearances in dungeons, such as (Japanese: ハチ) who will ask to trade Big Riceballs (Japanese: 大きなおにぎり). He will instead give Shiren a Giant Riceball (Japanese: 巨大なおにぎり). Not all characters are honest, however, and some will try to scam the player. Their gimmicks are fixed though, so if the player is able to rememebr them, the negative encounters can be avoided on subsequent playthroughs.

• Armband Synthesis Scroll (Japanese: 腕輪合成の巻物)
  • Allows for synthesizing armbands.
• Big Riceball (Japanese: 大きなおにぎり)
• Destruction Scroll (Japanese: 全滅の巻物)
• Escape Scroll (Japanese: 脱出の巻物)
• Giant Riceball (Japanese: 巨大なおにぎり)

  • Allows the player to synthesize weapons and shields with the ones they're currently wearing.

Item Identification

Some dungeons feature items that won't be identified when they're picked up. Once they've been ID'ed, they'll remain so for the rest of the adventure.

Item Synthesis

Using Synthesis Scrolls and Armband Synthesis Scrolls, players can combine Weapons and Shields with the ones they currently have equipped or various armbands together to create more useful items. Items have limited number of slots for seals (Japanese: 印), meaning they have to choose wisely which ones to use.

Live Viewing

Live viewing allowed players to broadcast their data, and receive help from others. Alternatively, it allowed players to watch others and even send simple messages to aid or greif players. It was a beneficial feature that allowed new players to learn more advanced techniques from more experienced players.

Locations

Platina has 5 dungeons, only three can be accessed at first, by meeting a certain character in the dungeon and meeting the right conditions, you will be able to enter the remaining two dungeons. Dungeons feature vaults where rare items can appear.

Initially starting out with 30 floors, it later increases to 99 floors once you clear it. Items can be brought in, and all items will be identified upon being picked up.

Initially starting out with 30 floors, it later increases to 99 floors once you clear it. Items can be brought in, and some appear unidentified, with yellow names. Such as Scrolls and Staves.

Initially starting out with 50 floors, it later increases to 99 floors once you clear it. Players start out with a Big Riceball (Japanese: 大きなおにぎり) for food. Some items are unidentified when picked up. On floor 20, the boss (Japanese: 大きなおにぎり) appears. Items can't be brought in.

  • The King of the Kigny is a boss in the Nintendo DS remake of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer.

Mini bosses will start to appear every 20 floors. When defeated, they'll drop items such as Helix Shield (Japanese: 螺旋風魔の盾) and (Japanese: Kabra's Blade) (Japanese: マンジカブラ).

  • This dungeon is similar in name to a Shiren 3 dungeon "Dungeon of War" (Japanese: 対戦の洞窟).

Most difficult item in the dungeon. Items can't be brought in.

Boss Battles

Bosses that plagued players from Mega 2 return. They appear on fixed layout floors and the stairs will not appear until they're defeated.

Rescues

Players could send for rescues up to four times per adventure. The player is required to have reached that floor previously to complete a rescue. Failing during a rescue will mean the rescuer is unable to send their own rescue request. Choosing not to seek a rescue or giving up, the player will be sent back to the inn. The room where the fallen player is located will always be a monster house.

Shops

• Guard Dog (Japanese: 番犬)
• Sheriff (Japanese: 盗賊番)
• Shopkeeper (Japanese: 店主)

The shop system implemented in Mega 2 makes a return. Players can purchase (or steal) difficult-to-find items from shops. Items are purchased with Gitan (Japanese: ギタン), the in-game currency of the Shiren the Wanderer series. Shopkeepers will only purchase three items and no more, limiting the amount of Gitan players can make from a shop. Items picked up and identified in shops will be treated as a purchase, even if the player attempts to return them. If the player attempts to steal items, the shopkeeper will declare them a thief and Sheriff's and Guard Dogs will begin to appear and hunt Shiren down, along with the Shopkeeper.
