Shiren 1 DS:Oryu the Blinder (quest)

Oryu the Blinder (Japanese: お竜) is a quest in  Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. A mysterious woman who has been luring people into closing their eyes for her, then blinding them. However, the victims of her sandy attacks aren't pleased with her antics.

Location: Table Mountain floor 1 - 4, Bamboo Village

Requirement: Defeat or bypass two Characters.

Minimum Duration: 3 adventures.

Reward: Recruitment of Oryu the Blinder as a Party Member

First Adventure

• Find and talk to the purple-haired "Woman" on floors 1 - 2 of Table Mountain. Agree to close your eyes, and once more when she says to keep them closed.

After some suggestive dialogue she asks if Shiren will close his eyes for her. If he agrees, she will Blind him for 30 turns and disappear from the map.

If Shiren declines, the woman will not blind Shiren and will only say "...Goodbye..." when talked to.

At Bamboo Village after being blinded, a Strong Man and a Chubby Man will be talking at the entrance to the village. The woman's actions have infuriated them, and if they see her again, they will enact their revenge. It is not necessary to talk to either of the men to progress the quest.

Second Adventure

• Find Oryu on floors 1 - 4 before Bamboo Village again, and talk to her.

The woman will claim to Shiren that it was her twin sister who blinded him by throwing stuff in his eyes, then proceeds to blind him once more and disappear.

If Shiren declines, once more, the woman will not blind Shiren and will only say "...Goodbye..." when talked to.

Third Adventure

• Go to Bamboo Village and notice the two men and the woman on the porch of the Blacksmith's Shop, Fudou.
• Talk to the Chubby Man and offer to help the Woman. The two men will then target Shiren. You do not have to defeat or attack the two men, Shiren only has to talk to the Woman and allow her to join you to finish the recruitment quest.

The Woman, moved by Shiren coming to her defense, promises to stop blinding people, then introduces herself as Oryu. She will ask to join Shiren; if he says "yes", she will give him a "special thank you", blinding him for the last time and joining him on the current adventure.

If Shiren says "no", he will immediately be blinded, though Oryu will be standing in the same spot, ready to ask again. On subsequent adventures, she won't appear in Bamboo Village but will be found wandering in dungeons to be recruited as if Shiren had accepted her as a teammate.

Trivia

• The two men can be bypassed in the Third Event by leading them off the shop porch. All is required is for Shiren to talk to Oryu by any means. If Oryu is talked to without damaging the two men, they will still be docile Characters and will say "......" after she is recruited. If they are attacked, they will be considered hostile Monsters and will attack Shiren.
