Kechi the Masseur (Japanese: 座頭ケチ) refers to a quest in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. Kechi is a man has been traveling around claiming that he is blind, and offering massages that harm his clients more often than not. The people he has deceived are not at all happy with him.

First Adventure

  • Find and talk to the squinting man with a walking stick on floors 1 - 2 of Table Mountain and pay 200 Gitan for a massage.

Though he is more likely to press a wrong pressure point, Kechi's first massage can actually yield the positive outcome. Only one massage is required to continue with the next event, and the outcome of which does not matter.

Shiren can request infinite massages from Kechi at this moment, as long as he has enough Gitan. Kechi will stop appearing in dungeons until recruited after receiving the first massage.

Second Adventure

  • Go to Bamboo Village and walk downwards where the path first divides.

Kechi is being confronted by a "Group of four" men, and walking towards the group will trigger a cutscene where Kechi easily defeats all four of them. Kechi will tell Shiren that people are out of get him, as well as mentioning that he is blind.

  • Talk to Kechi after he fights the group. If you don't talk to him, he will still be standing there on subsequent adventures.

Third Adventure

  • Go to Mountaintop Town and walk over the bridge to the east of town.

Kechi is begin confronted again, by a Man, Woman, Child and Shopkeeper. All of them will say that they know Kechi is not blind, or are angry that his massage has hurt them. Before talking to all the people, Kechi will beg for Shiren's help when talked to.

  • Talk to all the angry people, then Kechi.

After Koppa asks, Kechi says that pretending to be blind would advance his massage business, but he started having more fun with it. After he apologizes, the angry crowd disappears. With no where else to go, Kechi asks if he can join Shiren.

If Shiren says "no", Kechi will not be waiting in the same spot in Mountaintop Town but will be found wandering in dungeons to be recruited as if Shiren had said "yes". Declining Kechi and immediately talking to him again will yield the typical Party Member recruitment dialogue.

Trivia

  • If Shiren interacts with Kechi or any of the group of four in the Second Event, by throwing or using items on them, the cutscene sequence will be broken. Shiren can now walk around them with nothing happening and when talked to, the Group of four members all say "......", and Kechi says "...". This also occurs in the Third Event with everyone except Kechi saying "......".
The yellow Character Shopkeeper.
  • The Shopkeeper in the Third Event is the only Shopkeeper in Shiren 1 to be considered a Character and not a Monster. This is confirmed as he appears as a yellow blimp when Mountaintop Town is changed into a dungeon.
    • They still retain their very high stats, but move at normal Speed and are only damaged by a Blastwave Scroll after they have become provoked.
