Information
Location

The Smith's Apprentice (Japanese: ???) is a quest in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. The Smith's Apprentice in Bamboo Village is aspiring to become a great blacksmith, but is lacking in confidence and self-esteem. Help her get through the apprenticeship and create a valuable friendship!

Requirements

  • Reach Bamboo Village

How to Complete

To progress the side quest, simply continue talking to her every time you pass through the town. She can be found in various locations:

  • Inside the Blacksmith's shop
  • Inside the Old Man's house (between the Item Shop and Blacksmith's)
  • Next to Bufu's statue (at the back of the village)
  • Outside the Blacksmith's shop
  • Outside Goro's house (south part of the village) When you saw her crying next to Bufu's statue, you have to be alone (no other party member) to trigger the dialogue.

At one point, she will ask you for a Weapons to practice on. Give one to her and she will return the upgraded sword on the next run. After completing this first part of the side quest, you will receive the Mastersword. But it's not over yet! Afterward, talk to the Old Man and his granddaughter every time you go to the Village, and finishing this part will give you the second reward.

Reward

  • +30 Mastersword
  • Find her in place of the Blacksmith in Bamboo Village from time to time. She will give you upgrades for free and is more likely to give you a +3 upgrade. (But, she can't do the unusual upgrades like changing a weapon to a different form; wait for the regular smith to return for that.)

Choke Points

Several people have been confused by the way the Apprentice just stops evolving and repeats the same thing over and over, thinking they had somehow answered the questions wrong and failed the quest. This is not so; she just needs other events to unfold to trigger her own.

  • She will stop close to the Fortuneteller and talk about the weather or whatever until you beat the main adventure.
  • She will run around and, again, babble on about nonsense until you enter the Kitchen God bonus dungeon. You do not have to beat it, just trigger it so all the village gawkers move away.
