The Evolution of the Dungeon Map in Mystery Dungeon games.
Torneko 1 - Super Famicom - 1993
There are two behaviors for the map and selecting "Map" in the menu switches between them. By default, the map isn't visible unless the B button is pressed or held. The other second option keeps the map visible at all times. Additionally, the ability to press a button to black out the map and remove distractions is present and later became a recurring feature in the franchise.
Shiren 1 - Super Famicom - 1995
The map in Shiren 1 SFC is designed to never cover Shiren.
Moonlight Village GB - Game Boy - 1996
Moonlight Village GB is unable to display the map, so players are required to press a button to view it.
Torneko 2 - GBA - 2001
Red and Blue Rescue Team - Game Boy Advance/Nintendo DS - 2005
Shiren 1 DS - Nintendo DS - 2006
Explorers TD - Nintendo DS - 2007
Explorers of Sky - Nintendo DS - 2009
