Draft:Shiren 5 Vita:New Items
This article is a draft relating to Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate (Vita) for the PlayStation Vita. |
Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate allows the player to create new items {{JA|新種道具) out of existing ones.
New items are created in the secret pots (Japanese: 秘伝の甕) in the basement of Hotel Nekomaneki. You can unlock only 2 secret pots at first, then you can later unlock the remaining 4 secret pots.
- In Shiren 5 Plus (PS Vita, Steam, and Switch), you unlock the remaining 4 secret pots by talking to the character after clearing Tower of Fortune.
- In Shiren 5 (Nintendo DS),
To make new items, you insert a base item into a secret pot, and wait 1 - 7 days of real time. New items can be made out of swords, shields, bracelets, grasses, scrolls, staves, and talismans. Each day, there is a chance that the item will acquire a random set of 1-3 additional magic effects, replacing any previously added effects. You can take the item out of the secret pot at any time, until 8 days have passed. This lets you register the item as a new item. The longer you let the item bake, the more likely you will get good effects. After 8 days have passed, the item will turn into Weeds.
Once any magic effects are added, you cannot get the base item back. Your only options are to register it as a new item, discard it, or let it bake longer and hope to get better effects. A new item cannot be inserted into a secret pot again.
Once per dungeon run, you can buy any new item you have registered from the raccoon who runs the secret pot room.
You can create new items that are vastly more powerful than any base item. In particular, new item bracelets are very helpful when you are trying to beat a difficult dungeon that allows items, such as Lost Well. Turning a rare item, such as Scout Bracelet, into a new item also lets you get additional copies more easily, since you can buy new items for Gitan.
You can have a maximum of 64 different new item types per game diary. If you try to make more than 64 new items, you must overwrite one of them, in which case any existing copies of it anywhere in the game will vanish. This is also the only way to delete a new item.
New items always sell for 10 Gitan, but if you want to buy it at a shop you will have to pay full price.
New items cannot be traded with other players.
New Item Effects
Each category of items has its own effect pools to draw from.
Grasses, Scrolls, Staves, and Talismans
Every added effect that can appear on a new item grass, scroll, staff or talisman has a base item equivalent. An effect can appear on a new item more than once. It is possible to get "has no particular effect" as an added effect, corresponding to Weeds. The item-targeting scrolls can only acquire item-targeting added effects, and the non item-targeting scrolls can only acquire non item-targeting added effects.
If you use or throw a new item grass, scrolls, staff or talisman, the effects are applied in listed order, starting with the base item's effect. For example, a new item Dragon Grass with the Warp Grass effect added will make you shoot fire in front of you, and then warp away. If you throw it at a monster, it will do damage and warp the monster away if it hits.
Blessing on a new item applies to all its effects. A blessed new item with the Extraction Scroll effect can only be read once.
If you throw a new item scroll that has 4 total effects at a monster, it will do 2 damage four times for a total of 8 damage.
Swords, Shields, and Bracelets
Most added effects are the same as those of existing items, but some do not correspond to any innate effect or Runes. For example, "High evasion if you miss on your turn" can appear as a new item effect on a shield, but it does not appear as an innate effect on any shield.
In addition to magic effects, new item swords and shields can get a boost to their inherent power level up to +15, as well as their upgrade and rune limits (according to the Japanese wiki).
Each effect can only appear once on a new item sword, shield, or bracelet. This also applies to the base item's effect, and runes added to a new item sword or shield later. For example, A Gold Shield cannot get the secret pot effect "Upgrade value will never decrease", and a new item Plain Targe Type with "Upgrade value will never decrease" cannot get the Rustproof rune.
You can add runes onto a new item sword or shield, but you cannot convert a new item sword or shield into a rune, nor can you transfer runes from a new item sword or shield to another piece of equipment.
Note that the bracelet effect "Items thrown at you will miss" is a mistranslation, and the actual effect is "Items thrown by you will miss", corresponding to Inacc. Bracelet.
New Items in Dungeons
New items can appear in any dungeon that lets you take items in, as well as in Old Road, Heavenly Lake, and Garden of Destiny. They do not appear in other dungeons.
New items can make Old Road and Heavenly Lake drastically easier. New items only appear after 50 F in Garden of Destiny, so they do not affect gameplay up to that point.
