Mamels are Mystery Dungeon's signature creatures, and Gitan Mamels are their highest leveled form. They are a special type of monster in many ways and there are several ways to make use of them once you have access to Final Puzzle. Some interesting facts about Gitan Mamels which can be combined to some useful techniques: they only have 6 HP, they always drop 2,000 Gitan and they are worth 2,000 Experience.
Killing a Gitan Mamel
Unless you have a maxed Kabra's Blade or similarly strong weapon, you will only deal 1 damage to Gitan Mamels. They are also moving at double speed and have a high attack. Luckily enough, Gitan Mamels can be easily killed by items that do constant damage, like Dragon, Knockback Staff or Lightning Staff, throwing Gitan or several monster transformations.
Early level ups with Gitan Mamels
One of the fundamentals of Shiren is that you always get reset to level 1 when starting a new adventure. This can produce some very dangerous situations if your equipment is strong enough to make the early parts boring, but not strong enough to make them trivial. In those situations you can use Gitan Mamels to get to a safe level and hp fast and simple. Go to floor 1 and use a Staff of Happiness from a safe distance three times on a Mamel. Note that it will not be able to move towards you while doing this. Afterwards, kill the resulting Gitan Mamel. Two or three Gitan Mamel killed this way should be enough to get you a safe amount of hp.
If you want to use the Wagons, you will have to adapt the strategy a little bit. Instead of killing the Mamel, first turn it into meat with a Bufu's Staff, then return to Canyon Hamlet. Back there throw the meats at any of the Characters, before killing the resulting Gitan Mamel. Note that the Character-turned-Gitan Mamel will get the first turn so throw from at least two steps away. Alternately, throw a regular Mamel meat at the Character so it is less dangerous, then use the Happiness Staff.
Easy Money and Melding Jars with Gitan Mamels
Gitan Mamels will always drop 2,000 Gitan when killed. This is also true if they are turned into meat by a Bufu's Staff, so repeatedly turning a Gitan Mamel into meat, and throwing the resulting meat at something else will result in fast and easy money. After you have beaten the game most of your money will likely go to the Shops to buy Melding Jars. The umbrella seller in Mountaintop Town is a good target to throw Gitan Mamel meat at. If you enter the house he will be two steps away for safe throwing. Further, after using the Bufu's Staff, both the Gitan and meat will be close to you for fast pickup. He will also respawn after you leave his house. If you fail to hit him with the meat, just shoot an Arrow. He moves slowly and is no threat so you can pick up that meat again.
It is also a good idea to always carry a Gitan Mamel Meat in case you find a Dungeon Shops selling something expensive, so you can use the trick with any random monster around.
