Name Etymology

Ampharos may beInfo symbol.png a combination of "Amp" and "Pharaoh", due to its slight resemblance to depictions of Egyptian Pharaohs, with their striped golden headpieces. Its Japanese name is a combination of 電 "Den" which has to do with electricity and "Ryū", which could mean Dragon, Noble, or Prosperous.[1][2] While it eventually gained Dragon-type due to its Mega Evolution, it may have been misinterpreted by the English localizer as being an Electric Noble, hence the possible Ancient Egyptian reference.

Alternatively, デンリュウ "denryu" is also a homonym for 電流 "electric current", which is measured in amperes.[3] This also ties into the English name, which may be a stylistic misspelling of amperes.
