The Tainted Insect (Japanese: 魔蝕虫) is a recurring boss monster present in the Shiren the Wanderer series. It made its debut in Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer in 1995, making it not only one of the Original Monsters, but the first ever Mystery Dungeon boss monster.
Related additional monsters include the Tainted Soldier, and the Tainted Queen that first appeared in Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer in 2006, and two cameo appearances in the Danganronpa series, the first in 2017, under the name Monokumasect.
