Weapons (Japanese: 兵器) are a category of items in Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 - The Sleeping Princess and the Karakuri Mansion.
They are some of the most vital items in the game, side by side with your Shields. While it's possible to get away with fists alone, going into a dungeon without a proper weapon will be a death sentence. There are plenty of other items that will help you through dungeons but you will need to craft a few different weapons to beat this game.
All weapons have a basic damage value (Str), a current damage bonus(+X), and a maximum possible bonus (Max). Reading an Air Bless Scroll, or visiting the Blacksmith, resonating with a Dragon Orb, will increase the current bonus (up to Max), while Rust Traps and some Monsters can reduce it (down to -Str). Rarely, a Scroll or Blacksmith will add +3 Str to your weapon.
Runes
Some weapons have intrinsic special abilities (Runes), from turning monsters into Monster Meat, to Critical Hits, to Excavator, which allows players to dig through walls, to something as simple as increased damage vs. certain Monster-types. Some weapons are only available on character-exclusive weapons, but their runes can be fused onto other weapons. Shiren exclusive weapons will be represented with a bold SH next to the name. Asuka exclusive weapons will be represented with a bold A next to the name. Sensei-exclusive weapons will be represented with a bold SE next to the name.
Every weapon seal is displayed as a red orb. Purple orbs are from obtained from resonating with a Dragon Orbs or items being fused to a weapon from a Mixer monster.
Fusion
Using a Melding Jar or a Mixer Family monster, runes can be fused into a single weapon. Imbuing a weapon with different runes can aid in taking out tricky enemies that might otherwise present a more severe threat. Players can fuse weapons using 1 of 2 methods. Melding jars are rare and have limited uses. It's possible to make an infinite-use melding Jars but that requires access to several somewhat rare scrolls. The second method is to use Mixer monsters and their leveled-up forms.
- Melding Jar:
When two or more items of the same type are inserted into a melding jar, they will be fused into one item. Jars must then have their contents extracted using an Extraction Scroll or by breaking the jar.
- Mixer Monster Family:
Mixer monsters will swallow thrown items. The base form can only swallow 2 items and will fuse them, and each level higher can swallow one more item. The monster must then be killed to extract the weapon. An alternative method and the only way to add the Perforate rune to weapons is to eat the meat of a monster from the Mixer monster and walk over it.
Unfortunately, combining every rune on a single weapon in this game, so players have to choose wisely. Most of the weapons the player characters can equip throughout the story will only have 4 rune slots and there are 2 runes of vital importance.
All player character weapons should have the Rust Ward rune to prevent them from losing strength. The second most valuable rune would be the Ghost Slayer rune. When you players kill members of the Evil Soldier Family, they'll return a few turns later as Dead Soldiers. Player attacks will only deal 1 damage and they can warp away or level up another monster, creating incredibly dangerous situations. Fortunately, most of Asuka's Two-handed Weapons can have up to 6 rune slots which will allow her to take out most enemies.
