For the lore page, see Shiren:Curse.

Curses (Japanese: 呪い) are an item condition in Wii Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 - The Sleeping Princess and the Karakuri Mansion. Cursed items are denoted by a skull icon next to their name and can't be used. Curses are the antithesis of Blessings.

All items can be cursed and, from then on, can no longer be used until the curse is removed. If cursed items are equipped, players will be unable to unequip them normally. On top of that, Weapons, Shields, and Armbands lose their effects.

Acquisition

Items found in dungeons have a chance to be cursed, including those sold in Dungeon Shops. The VooDummy family or a Curse Trap can curse items in the inventory. Items stored in a Jar can't be cursed, but the jar itself can be.

Intricacies

Weapons and shields found cursed in dungeons will have a value of -1 which will also reduce the sale price of the item. The upside to this is it can also be used to determine if an unidentified item in a dungeon shop is cursed.

Curses reduce the damage dealt when the item is thrown at a Monster to a low value while also nullifying any effects that item may normally induce.

Cursed Projectiles can't be stacked and combined to remove curses, as is the case in some other Shiren titles.

Removal

There are several ways to get rid of curses on items.

  • Reading a Blessing Scroll will remove a curse from the selected item and sometimes all items not in jars in the inventory.
    • A blessed version will offer this bonus effect 100% of the time.
  • Reading a Plating Scroll will remove any curses on a weapon or shield.
  • Air Bless Scroll and Earth Bless Scroll will also remove curses from an equipped weapon or shield respectively.
  • Inserting a cursed item into a Purifying Jar will remove the curse
  • Inserting a cursed item into a Blessed Jar will also remove the curse, but won't bless the item.
  • Offering an item to a Dragon Orb and letting some time pass will have a high chance to remove a curse.
  • A Distress Scroll can remove curses as one of its effects if a lot of items are cursed.

Alternatively:

Stepping on an Unequip Trap will remove the player's equipped items.
