Super MD:Unused items

MDFW - The Mystery Dungeon Tree of Information.
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Unused Items in Nintendo 3DS Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon are unobtanaible items with inaccessible data and graphics. Some may be content left over from previous games while others are unfinished or scrapped items or ideas from development. Items on this page can't normally be accessed and require Cheat Codes or hacking to view and insert into a save file.

Looplets

Normal Looplets are generally grouped separately from Looplets that have extra notches. However, the Air, Water, Mist and Sand Looplets (which all use the glowing icon) are all listed alongside normal Looplets. The list of Looplets with extra notches repeats in the same order, with unused Looplets replacing the four aforementioned Looplets. The short English description in the European version is "Super MD - Unused kanji icon.pngUNUSED". The long descriptions don't match those of the aforementioned items. While they are different, the effects described match the effects of the Water, Sea, Grass and and Earth Looplets respectively. Looplet with ID 100 has the regular glowing icon with short description "Super MD - Unused kanji icon.png".

Super MD - Looplet with Awakening Emera icon (unused).png Super MD - Glowing Looplet with Awakening Emera icon (unused).png Rainbow Looplet icons are used when an Awakening Emera is inserted. When an Emera is inserted, a star appears on the Looplet icon. So these icons are unused.

Super MD - Looplet with Emeras with Awakening Emera icon (unused).png Unused because any Looplet with an Awakening Emera icon uses the glowing Rainbow icon with a star.

Food

Items with IDs 103, 106, 110 and 111 are unused items using the fresh Apple icon. They can be eaten, and they fill the belly.

The debug names for 103 and 106 are "ITEM_FOOD_NORMAL_RANK3" and "ITEM_FOOD_LARGE_RANK3". Rank 1 is fresh Apples, and rank 2 is for normal Apples, so it seems these were ralated to the fresh Apples game mechanic. In addition to their regular effects, they also restore HP when eaten.

Items with IDs 195 and 195 are before Mega Donut. They have a pink ticket icon and a silver ticket icon respectively. When placed on the ground, 195 uses a small donut model and 196 uses a normal donut model. When eaten they only restore 25 HP. Gates to Infinity has three donut items.

Two items named "[M:I0705]" come right after Mega Donut and before Sweet Chocolate in the game's internal order, with IDs 198 and 199. The first item uses a small donut model, and the latter uses a normal donut model. Their debug names are "ITEM_PARAMETER_CHOCOLATE_" 1 and 2, while 3 is Sweet Chocolate. Eating them restores 25 HP.

This same pattern repeats again with items 201 and 202, debug names "ITEM_PARAMETER_COOKIE_" 1 and 2. The item right after them is the Four-Leaf Cookie.

Candy

Items 145 through 162 have the debug names "ITEM_PP_CANDY_" followed by each Pokémon type. It's possible that these were intended to be Gummis from previous games, being repurposed as items that affect PP rather than IQ. They use a seed icon and nothing happens when selecting the "Eat" option from the menu.

Devices

Items named "[M:IDLXX]", where XX is a number. They have an "Eat" option that doesn't do anything. When placed on the ground inside a dungeon, they use the same models as the Devices from Gates to Infinity, and they are 17 in total, just like the Devices. Additionally, item with ID 194, which doesn't have a name, uses the Super MD - Rumored Tag icon.png icon and a Device model when placed on the ground. Its debug name shows that it was intended as a new Fairy-type Device.

Emeras

Targeted Attack (ID 349) and Second Chance (ID 401) are unused Emeras. Both Emeras have the description "Super MD - Unused kanji icon.png".

Items from ID 408 to ID 447 can be inserted in Looplets (possible effects currently unknown), however they use the Golden Apple icon, and nothing happens when using them on a Pokémon. When placed on the ground, they have an unused white Emera model.

Targeted Attack

Targeted Attack is an unused Emera, red color. Its effect, if any, is unknown.

Second Chance

Second Chance is an unused Emera, green color. A Pokémon that holds a Looplet in which this Emera is inserted will be revived, however depletes the number of turns the player is allowed to stay on the current floor. It can only be used once per floor. Reviver Seeds take priority over this Emera and if they aren't used when the Pokémon faints, the Second Chance Emera will not activate.

When combined with the Go For Broke Emera whilst having at least one Reviver Seed, neither of the reviving items will work and the user will faint as usual. However, if no Reviver Seeds are present in the Bag, Second Chance's detrimental effect will still occur, without reviving the Pokémon.

When the Second Chance Emera is on a teammate while the leader has Ally Reviver, Ally Reviver will take priority over all other reviving items, whether or not there's a Reviver Seed in the Bag. If the team member with Second Chance also has the Go For Broke Emera, Go For Broke will prevent the Pokémon from being revived, no matter if there is a Reviver Seed in the Bag or not. Second Chance's negative effect will not occur, however, in either case.

TMs and HMs

Unused gold TMs exist in the game in both single use and reusable forms. They teach Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon, Volt Tackle, Draco Meteor, Grass Pledge, Fire Pledge and Water Pledge. They don't have a name, but they have proper descriptions, and they can actually be used on Pokémon that can learn them. Reusable gold TMs go from IDs 683 to 690, while single use gold TMs go from IDs 810 to 817. Placeholder TMs are also present.

Graphics

The only distinction between TMs and HMs in this game are the models they use on the ground. Nintendo Switch Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX eventually removed the distinction entirely.

The debug names for all reusable TMs, gold TMs and HMs include the term "BROKENMACHINE", suggesting that during development TM recycling mechanics from previous games were considered. Broken models for them exist and are unused. In the released game single use TMs and HMs disappear after being used.

Super MD - Gold TM icon (unused).png Super MD - Reusable Gold TM icon (unused).png There are no gold TMs in the game. The unused gold TMs mentioned above don't use these icons either, despite using gold TM models when placed on the ground.

Traps and floor tiles

Item 836 is the Pitfall Trap. It has both descriptions, but it has no name. It doesn't play its animation when stepped on. It sends to the next floor and does 10 damage.

Item 873 is "Rescue Point". It acts like a normal item that doesn't do anything, it can be given to a Pokémon, grabbed, dropped and thrown. It uses the down facing stairs model.

Requested items

Miscellaneous items

Item with ID 5 is an unused stick item. Items with IDs 9 and 10 are unused rock items.

There are 10 unused Wands, going from IDs 306 to 315. The first two are named ITEM_WAND_MARKING and ITEM_WAND_KANKIN in the debug message files. The others seem to just be placeholders.

Items from 495 to 513 are labeled "MUSIC". Items from 514 to 528 are labeled "FRAGMENT". These items also existed as unused items in Gates to Infinity.

Item 541 is referred to as "ITEM_BOX_RENKETSU", meaning this slot is intended for the Link Box.
