Shiren:Item Storage
Item Storage is a staple gameplay mechanic in the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series. Items are generally stored in 5 different ways.
Inventory
The first method is transient, temporary storage, and that would be the player's Inventory. The total inventory space generally consists of 20 item slots, though in some games, such as Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 - The Sleeping Princess and the Karakuri Mansion this may vary depending on the number of characters in the Party.
Quest Items tend not to take up spots in the inventory, and are normally not even accessible to the player during normal gameplay, usually only playing a role when they're needed for the appropriate quest.
Jars
Jars are another staple mechanic in the Shiren the Wanderer series. While items can be inserted into jars such as the Melding Jar, they can't usually be retrieved for use, and many jars aren't intended to hold items at all or have other ill effects, such as Bottomless Jars. One jar, in that case, stands out above the rest and that's the Jar of Holding, which, as the name implies, can be used to store items and retrieve them at will.
The total number of uses a Jar can have varies by game, and in some cases, a Jar Growth Scroll can be used to increase its capacity beyond what the player can find on the ground in Dungeons or for sale in Shops; thus increasing the player's inventory size to a greater degree.
Ally Characters
Asuka can equip items.
MA-MO is an ally character who can hold the player's items.
Sensei can equip items.
Permanent Storage
The final two types of item storage in Shiren are Storehouses and Warehouses.
Storehouses
Storehouses are locations where the player interacts with a character who will place the items into an out-of-sight storage area. The number of items that can be stored in storehouses, as always, varies by game. In many cases, the player is able to store items inside of Jars of Holding to increase the storage capacity, but that too has limits.

Warehouses
Warehouses are interior locations where the player places items on the ground in order to store them for later retrieval. They're generally smaller than Storehouses, and in older games, players aren't allowed to store items inside of Jars, as they'll be deleted. Unlike Storehouses, warehouses allow players to place down, and use items as if they were in a dungeon, which allows for greater freedom of use.
For example, in games such as Shiren 3, players might have to visit a dungeon to consume Mixer Meat and Fuse two items. However, in Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer DS2 - Magic Castle of the Desert a player can retrieve two items from the Storehouse, walk to the Storehouse area, consume Mixer Meat, walk over the two items, fuse them, and revert, and claim the item without having to deal with dungeons at all.
Warehouses do present dangers to cautionless players. If players throw items at walls, as in dungeons, the items will scatter and land on the ground, however, if there isn't any space, those items will be lost. If the player consumes monster meat, such as that of a Popster Tank, the resulting cannon blast will also destroy items. The dangers vary by game, due to the different variety of items, monsters, and gameplay mechanics present in each title.
