Meta:Rescue Team Cover Art
The Cover Art (Japanese: ???) of
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team.
Cover Art
Both covers were drawn by Ken Sugimori. They directly connect with one another, representing the Dual-Slot features of the game. On the Red Rescue Team cover art, a Torchic, a Meowth, a Cyndaquil and a Magnemite are in a red cave, looking scared as they're being approached by Medicham. The silhouettes of Medicham, Ekans and Charizard can be seen. Cyndaquil and Charmander wear a scarf, while Torchic wears a scarf on its head. An Oran Berry is on the ground next to Charmander. On the Blue Rescue Team cover art, a Mudkip, a Squirtle and a Totodile are in a blue forest are looking down at a hole. A Pikachu is scared as he sees Alakazam, Gengar and Tyranitar are chasing them, with red eyes. Pikachu, Squirtle and Totodile wear generic blue scarves. A Pecha Berry is on the ground next to Mudkip. Two Murkrow appear on the Blue Rescue Team Official Artwork, however they are normally obscured by the game logo.
The European version of the Blue Rescue Team cover art has several small differences. It is edited to move the Pecha Berry next to Pikachu instead, so that it isn't covered by the PEGI rating. In addition, Pikachu is also moved slightly to the right, allowing Alakazam's spoon to be seen. Tyranitar is also slightly moved to the right, allowing all of Gengar to be seen. However, Totodile partially covers Tyranitar's paw.
The Nintendo VIP 24:7 voucher included with the European version of Blue Rescue Team shows an expanded version of the Official Artwork, extending the area to the right, showing that the tree and rock seen in the cover art are much bigger.

Animated Cover Art
Both illustrations received an animated adaptation in the tenth version of the fourth opening of the Pocket Monsters Advanced Generation anime series. In the opening, a Corphish can be seen in place of Mudkip and a Munchlax can be seen in place of Totodile. Corphish and Munchlax are likely meant to be Ash's and May's respectively. The fourth variation was first used in episode 153, and it was kept until the tenth and last variation, which was last used in episode 166. Episode 153 premiered on the same day the game released in Japan. In the (Japanese: オーキド博士のポケモン講座) segment at the end of the episode, Professor Oak talks about the game.
