The game enters development.[1]

2004

August 7

The earliest mention of Rescue Team comes from a leak of information regarding Chunsoft in a 2channel thread, three months before the release of the Nintendo DS on November 21, 2004. The game was temporary titled 不思議のダンジョン ポケモンワールドピカチュウの大冒険, lit. Mystery Dungeon: Pokémon World: Pikachu's Great Adventure(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. and was said to be a Nintendo DS exclusive game.[2]

The temporary title is mentioned more often on the Internet, in Japan.[3][4]

2005

August 9

The first official mention of the game was revealed in the September 2005 issue of CoroCoro. The title of the game is changed to ポケモン 不思議のダンジョン 青の救助隊 and ポケモン 不思議のダンジョン 赤の救助隊, lit. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team. The pair are set to have a Nintendo DS and a Game Boy Advance release and ready for Winter; in between December 21, 2005 and March 20, 2006.[5]

August 27

Both versions of the game are reminded to have a release date on Winter 2005 this time; which is between December 21 and December 31, 2005.[6]

September 1

In a release schedule from Nintendo of Japan, both versions of the game got an estimated release date set for November 17, 2005.[7]

September 3

The release schedule was removed from Nintendo of Japan.[8]

September 14

In a Famitsu article, the release date is officially set for November 17, 2005 in Japan.[9]

October 8

Ten pages of information about the game was revealed by Pokémon Daisuki Club and more information in Pokéani.[10][11]

October 20

Three pages of more information about the game was revealed in Famitsu.[12]

November 17

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team are officially released in Japan and Taiwan.

November 24

In an article from Media-Create from November 14 to 20, 2005, the game sold over 237,000 copies in Japan; 124,000 copies for Blue Rescue Team and 113,000 for Red Rescue Team respectively. Later in a forum post from Gaming-Age, Blue Rescue Team has sold over 153,000 copies and Red Rescue Team over 130,000, which results to over 283,000 copies sold in Japan, one week after its official release.[13]

Nintendo warns against a bug in the Blue Rescue Team version involving its connectivity with its GBA counterpart, Red Rescue Team, which would completely erase the contents of any other Game Boy Advance games besides Red Rescue Team that was loaded into the system.[Citation needed]

December 25

Red and Blue Rescue Team sold over 500,000 copies in Japan each, which results to over 1,023,758 copies sold overall. It has surpassed the amount of copies sold of every other Mystery Dungeon titles, besides Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon, at this time.[14]

Nintendo patched the save file erasing bug and issued a new shipment of replacement DS cards with the patch.[Citation needed]

2006

February 18

Five new Pokémon games are scheduled for release; it includes both Red and Blue Rescue Team.[15]

May 10

Reported on Nintendo's Official E3 2006 website, both versions of the game had an official release date set for September 19, 2006 in North America.[16]

July 17

In the release list from Nintendo of Europe, both versions of the game were given a release date on November 10, 2006 in Europe, and on September 28, 2006 in North America.[17]

September 18

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team are officially released in North America.

September 28

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team are officially released in Australia.

November 10

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team are officially released in Europe.
