Ailments (Japanese: 状態変化) in Etrian Mystery Dungeon are a type of negative status condition. They can be cured with Protector's Refresh, Medic's Full Refresh, Gunner's Medic Bullet, Dancer's Fresh Waltz, Wanderer's Restore Ability, with Theriaca O, Healthy Lunch, Aid Scroll or Recover Scroll. Ailments can be inflicted by monsters and player with skills or with items. An ailment often lasts 5 turns, but depending on the skill or items who inflicted it, it can lasts more or less.

Arm Bind | 腕封じ | Arms have been bound, restricting any skills requiring the use of arms. Also, defense against physical attacks is decreased. | The character cannot use Arm-type skills. Their physical defense lowers. |
Clumsy | 拾えず | You cannot pick up items from the ground. | The affected character cannot pick up items from the ground. |
Confusion | 混乱 | Due to Confusion, cannot tell direction of movement or attack. Unable to distinguish friend from foe, may even attack allies. | The character move and attack randomly, making it possible to hit allies. And, when using room-wide skill or items, it affects both allies and monsters. |
Disarmed | はずし | Normal attacks will always miss. | Normal attacks will always miss. Skills are not affected. |
Fear | テラー | Due to Fear, there is a chance of being unable to act. | The affected character will sometimes be unable to act. |
Flame Link | リンクフレイム | State of being inflicted with Blazing Link. When being attacked, take extra fire damage. | The character affected take extra fire damage each time they take damage. |
Haunted | ゾワゾワ | You feel something haunting you from the back. Attacks and skills will be shot in the opposite direction. | The affected character will attack in the opposite direction it tries. |
Head Bind | 頭封じ | Head has been bound, restricting any skills requiring the use of it. Also, defense against affinity attacks is decreased. | The character cannot use Head-type skills. Their elemental defense lowers. |
Hypnosis | 催眠 | Due to Hypnosis, your actions do not reflect your own commands. Unable to determine friend from foe, may even attack allies. | The affected character is essentially controlled by the enemy and will act randomly. He can unequipped equipment, throw an item, use random items or attack randomly. |
Ice Link | リンクフリーズ | State of being inflicted with Freezing Link. When being attacked, take extra ice damage. | The character inflicted take extra ice damage each time they take damage. |
Leg Bind | 脚封じ | Legs have been bound, restricting any skills requiring the use of legs. Also, you cannot move from where you are. | The character cannot use Leg-type skills. They also cannot move or use stairs.. |
Pain Trade | 痛み分け | Take damage equivalent to the damage inflicted on the one that cast the curse. | Everytime the character that inflicted Pain Trade takes damage, the character affected by Pain Trade will take exactly the same amount of damage. |
Paralysis | 麻痺 | Paralysis prevents acting. Outside influence such as attacks or switch in place will dispel it. | The affected character will not move there is an interaction with it, such as a buff, a debuff, an attack or a switch in place. |
Poison | 毒 | Poisoned state. Will take damage at the end of each turn. | The affected character will loose 20 HP at the end of each turn. It will also be slowed. |
Skill Bind | スキル封じ | All of your skills are sealed and cannot be used. | The afflicted character cannot use skills whatsoever. |
Sleep | 睡眠 | Sleeping prevents acting. Will not be woken by outside influences such as damage. Must be resolved through Refresh or items. | The affected character can't act until it is woken up. |
Thunder Link | リンクサンダー | State of being inflicted with Electric Link. When being attacked, take extra volt damage. | The character inflicted take extra volt damage each time they take damage |
