Pkmn:Team Mechanics
This page explains Team Mechanics as a gameplay element in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon video games.
Team
In each game, the player forms a Team. Recruited or befriended Pokémon become a part of the team, which then allows the player to add them to their party when adventuring in a dungeon, if the story and the dungeon itself allow it.

Allies
Allies are Pokémon that follow the party, but are not in the party, meaning that the player has more limited control over them. These can appear as story characters, in missions, or as part of the recruiting process in Rescue Team and Rescue Team DX. The maximum amount of allies can be different from the maximum amount of party members, although the latter affects the former, as more party members can mean less slots for allies.
Story
In some games, allies may join the player in dungeons during certain parts of the story.
