Subclassing (Japanese: サブクラス) is a mechanic in
Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2
that can be used in the Explorers Guild by characters of level 20 or higher [1][2]. Subclassing is unlocked after completing the fourth dungeon and unlocking the fifth dungeon.[1][2]
Subclassing allows a character to learn and use the skills of a class other than their own. A character can only have one subclass, which can be changed in the Explorers Guild using Rest [2]. In addition to skills, subclassing allows a character to equip weapons and shields that their subclass can equip, but does not allow them to equip armor or other equipment that their subclass can equip.[2]
If the main class and the subclass of a character have the same skill, for example Medic's and Monk's Healing, any points allocated to either the main or the subclass will be reflected in both classes. [2]

Example of subclassing provided by the official website. It explains that a Landsknecht with a Runemaster subclass can use Runemaster skills to attack from a distance, and a Hexer with a Protector subclass can equip shields to increase their defense.
