This starving Old Man (Japanese: おにぎりじじい) has the same sprite as the Characters, who will give Shiren a Riceball or a Riceball Scroll when talked to while Hungry.

Riceball Resentment

There is a 1 in 16 chance that an Old Man (starving) will appear in front of Shiren when eating his last Riceball on floors 1 - 16 of Table Mountain and beg for you to give it to him. You can choose whether to give him your last Riceball or not, though you will have to bear the consequences of your decision.

Location: Floors 1 - 16 of Table Mountain
Requirements: Have only one Riceball of any type in your inventory and attempt to eat it.
Reward: a Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Herb.pngHappiness Herb with the loss of the Riceball.

A vengeful floating ghost of the starved Old Man that follows Shiren. It cannot be affected by anything and will laugh at the player when Items are thrown at it. Riceball Resentment is able to float over water, chasms, and foliage, and wanders around aimlessly, occasionally approaching Shiren to guilt the player for their selfishness.

Event Progression

When selecting 'eat' on your last inventory Riceball the Old Man will appear in front of Shiren.

Upon selecting 'Yes' and agreeing you will give him your riceball, and he will give you a Happiness|Happiness Herb as thanks. He will then walk around the floor as normal, and will always say the same words when interacted with:

Yes/No Selecting 'Yes' will continue the above scene, and Shiren will receive a Happiness Herb.
When selecting 'No' a second time the Old Man will take damage and disappear. On the next floor up there will be a floating ghost of the Old Man, called 'Riceball Resentment'. Riceball Resentment wanders the floor can move through walls.

The Old Man starved to death...

his eternal hatred...

There will also be multiple Polygon Spin, Fullness draining monsters, are also present in on the floor, despite not naturally spawning on floors 2 - 17 of Table Mountain. When trying to use items on or attack Riceball Resentment, he only laughs. You cannot affect him in any way.

Occasionally, the ghost will talk to Shiren, guilting the player for their selfishness.

  • The Old Man (starving) can only appear in front of Shiren, even when Shiren is facing another direction when eating the last Riceball, he will spawn there and Shiren will quickly turn to face the front.
