Locations in Super Famicom Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer take place in and around Kobami Valley. The locations of Impasse Valley range from villages, to towns, hamlets, forests, mines, mountains, and more. During gameplay, they're separated into dungeon locations and village locations, with each new Adventure beginning in Canyon Hamlet.

Towns and Villages

Towns and villages are locations where the player mainly interacts with characters, shops, or enters other locations, including dungeons. In this game, towns and villages keep the same grid movement as dungeons, and friendly characters can be affected by Items such as Staves. The player can also steal from shops, which makes enemies appear in the current town or village.

Dungeons

Dungeons in this game consist of randomly generated floors with loot and equipment scattered about. Hostile monsters will spawn, as well as neutral characters who may offer quests, join Shiren on adventures, or give valuable advice. Dungeon floors are littered with Traps, which will cause negative effects, such as blowing up and dealing massive health damage or teleporting Shiren to another location on the floor.

There is a total of 5 dungeons in the game, one of which is unused and only accessible via a Debug Room. The last of the unlockable post-credits dungeons is the ultimate challenge of the game. Fay's Final Puzzle is a 99-floor dungeon that doesn't allow items to be brought in.

While players of other Mystery Dungeon games might be surprised to find out the main-story dungeon, Table Mountain is only 30 floors, it should not be underestimated. First-time players are likely to fail a lot, as Shiren's level is reset to 1 every time an adventure in a dungeon ends. Items can also be kept in Warehouses between attempts. This allows the player to get many powerful items, which can make getting through the main dungeon significantly easier. Though many new players often over-rely on farming powerful equipment, only to be upset when it's inevitably lost. The most important lesson is to learn something from every attempt. Loot can be replaced, and the game isn't meant to be beaten in a single run, as quests will take multiple adventures to progress.

" Shiren the Wanderer is a short game. You could probably beat it in an hour. But you probably couldn't.

Fay's Puzzles

Fay's Puzzles are located in the starting village and are designed to teach players the basics of how to play Shiren the Wanderer. There are a total of 50 puzzles, one of which can be played prior to/after every adventure. The puzzles cycle back around if the player finishes all 50. It's advised that new players work on the puzzles in between attempts at dungeons to better understand the gameplay mechanics.
