The debug room.
The debug room.

The Debug Room is an unused area in Super Famicom Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer. It can be accessed by walking south, to the entrance of Canyon Hamlet while Debug Mode is enabled. Pekeji's theme is used as the background music.

Appearance

The debug room consists of white walls and gray ground tiles, and two pools of water. The layout is based on the eastern outside area of the Shop (Tenth Stage) in Super Famicom Torneko's Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon(UT) - This is an unofficial translation.(UT) - This is an unofficial translation., with only a difference in the north-eastern part of the map which is larger than the Torneko 1 counterpart.

Warps

The purpose of the debug room is to lead to different locations in the game through the numerous invisible warps present in the debug room. In some of those floors, progressing in the dungeon leads back to the debug floor, and others lead to the next floor normally.

Sometimes pressing Start in the debug room brings back to the debug room. After returning to the debug room after leaving many (but not all) of the floors accessed from the debug room, pressing Start brings back to that floor.

The six warps in the north-central area lead to what appear to be unused dungeons that use the same look for multiple floors.

  • Old Cedar Road (18 floors)
  • Mountain Stream (18 floors)
  • Pegasus Ridge (18 floors)
  • Waterfall Marsh (8 floors)
  • Ravine of Illusions (4 floors)
  • Valley Forest(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. (9 floors)

Two locations that look like Moutaintop Forest (Japanese: ???) use the name Valley Forest (Japanese: ???) instead. In the actual game, Mountaintop Forest comes immediately before Mountaintop Town, so the "Valley" part of the name may be a reference to the first town in the game Canyon Hamlet. In pre-release material a completely different forest by the name Lost Forest(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. (Japanese: 迷いの森) appears as the first floor of the main dungeon. However, what is assumed to be the first town in that prototype version, appears more similar to Mountaintop Town than Canyon Hamlet.

The warps in the north-eastern area (Fifth Dungeon(UT) - This is an unofficial translation.?) are speculated to be what is left of the prototype main dungeon of the game seen in pre-release material. The names of these floors don't match what they contain (for example, some use the names of towns even though they are dungeon floors). Some only have a floor number, without a name. All the floors in this area use the "ice dungeon" background music. The floors accessed from this area are named:

  • 1
  • 2 Canyon Hamlet
  • 3 Old Cedar Road
  • 5 Bamboo Village
  • 6 Pegasus Ridge
  • 11 Cavern in the Cliff
  • 16 Table Mountain
  • 18 Ravine of Illusions

Excluding the three warps to Canyon Hamlet at the entrance, warps to town locations lead to versions of the locations that lack characters and scripts.

Excluding the warps that lead back to the debug and the three post-credits dungeons, all the locations reached from warps on the western side of the debug room use the background music of Mountaintop Town.
