The Jellyfish Mage (Japanese: 外法海月) is the eleventh boss in Wii Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 - The Sleeping Princess and the Karakuri Mansion. It is a large variation of the Splitter monster family and has some debilitating attacks that it can perform. There is not much known about this monster as it does not speak or show any extensive personality above being just another monster. It encounters Oboro and her group of Shogunate Ninjas and seems to have them on the verge of death a short time before Shiren and Asuka arrive to save them.

Strategy

This fight starts with 4 Splitter enemies as well as the boss himself. Just like with the Pot King fight, this is a decent opportunity to make use of any confusion items you have so that the splitters can work for you and possibly hit the boss. With that in mind, before you enter into this boss fight you should consider putting away any important water susceptible items you have. Jellyfish Mage has an attack called water sphere that will have a chance to rush all of your equipment in your inventory whether or not it is equipped. It may also randomly cause the Soak negative effect to any susceptible items. Soak will rot food items such as Riceballs and Monster Meat, rust equipment and turn any Scrolls into Soaked Scroll. This can actually be a very clever way to make a bunch of Blank Scroll early, as you can not obtain blank scrolls at this point in the game normally. If you have a bunch of scrolls you don't care about, you can take them out of your jars so they may be exposed to this attack for your benefit. Soaked scrolls will after time, dry up and turn into blank scrolls, which can be very useful to you for a myriad of things.

Water Sphere aside, the mage only has one other attack called Slapfest which will do some damage and lower your maximum strength. Like with all poisoning effects, this will be reverted after the dungeon so is not a huge concern, though having weakened attack during a boss fight could cause some problems. An Antidote Armband will help prevent this side effect.

Outside of the confusion tactic for the 4 splitter monsters, you will simply want to beat down this boss as best as you can. You should at this point be more than capable of efficiently dealing with a boss enemy using basic tactics. Heal when necessary, buff yourself with beneficial Herbs if you desire, and just attack it with your ranged items when it is distant and melee once it is adjacent. Because of its rusting effect, having plating on your equipment can be very helpful. If you lack plating then consider switching your best gear out for your next best gear that you don't care about as much before entering the boss fight. Just place your best stuff inside of your Holding Jar to keep them safe from the water sphere attack.
