Normal Shiren Trap Armband
Mecharoid Family

Equipping a Trap Armband visibly changes Template:ShirenPC sprite from a red undershirt, blue cloak and shoes to a green shirt and red accessories. When transformed, Shiren takes the form of a Mecharoid Family Monster.

Abilities

Though only the Trap Armband explicitly states that it provides the 'Trap Master' status, Monster-Shiren as a Mecharoid Family Monster has similar abilities to this. The differences are outlined below.

Trap Armband Mecharoid-Shiren
Traps are visible
Can hold traps in inventory Monsters have no inventory
Can place traps on the floor Can create traps on the floor
Traps will effect non-floating-type monsters
Gains 1 XP with no trap multiplier

With a non-cursed Trap Armband equipped, Shiren can pick up traps from the floor and place them down once. Once a trap has been placed or dropped, it cannot be picked up again. Mecharoid-Shiren can create traps on empty floor spaces to a maximum total of 99 traps on the floor. Only traps that are able to spawn naturally on those floors can be created by Mecharoid-Shiren.

A Mamel with a multiplier of x1 after stepping on an Unequip Trap

When monsters step on floor spaces with traps, a number appears next to them. This is a trap multiplier, which determines how much XP is rewarded when that monster is defeated. With no multiplier, Trap Master Shiren, or Mecharoid-Shiren will only gain 1 exp.

If a monster is defeated with a multiplier of Shiren 1 DS Trap Multiplier 1x.png Shiren will gain 1x the amount of experience defeating that monster would normally reward, therefore a Mamel would give 2 xp. A x2 multiplier on a Mamel would give double the normal amount, 4 xp, and so on. This multiplier will decrease in increments of 1 for each square the monster steps on that does not have a trap on it. The maximum trap multiplier a monster can have is x20.

How to get affected

  • Equip a Trap Armband
  • Transform into a Mecharoid Family Monster by consuming Monster Meat or by the magic ability of a Skull Wizard with a transform effect.

How to cure

As a beneficial status, the player would not likely want to be cured of the 'Trap Master' status and therefore would avoid ways of the condition becoming disabled. These methods are listed below.

  • Use Monster Meat to change into any monster that is not in the Mecharoid Family, as abilities of equipped items do not apply to Monster-Shiren.
  • Unequip the Trap Armband or let it become cursed.
  • Manually trigger a Riceball Trap or be changed into a Riceball by a Rice Boss or a Rice Master.
  • Get transformed into a Riceball by the magic ability of a Skull Wraith or a Skull Demon with the Riceball effect.
  • Get transformed into a different monster by the magic ability of a Skull Wizard.
  • Revert back to Shiren from a Mecharoid Family Monster.

Trivia

  • The status, 'Trap Master' does not visibly appear as Shiren's status, with either method, however, it is mentioned in the description of the Trap Armband, and evidently changes Shiren's sprite.
  • It is apparent that the color scheme for Shiren's Trap Master sprite was created by inverting the palette of the original without careful consideration. This is notable as the interior of the sprite's mouth is green, whereas the normal Shiren sprite is red, as this follows the same color as Shiren's undershirt.
