Unused Items in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity.
Mysterious Items
Items that can only be obtained from downloadable content can be kept even if the DLC is uninstalled or if the SD card is removed. If the DLC isn't found, some of those items will use the name "Mysterious Item", with the icon of a question mark and the 3D model of a question mark, however, they are fully working and have proper descriptions. These icons, models and names are not unused themselves, however, it is interesting to note because some of those items are known as "YOBI" (reserved) in the debug text files. It is also interesting that, while the game displays the name of these items as "Mysterious Item" when the DLC is not installed, the text files of the base game actually include all of their proper names. It is currently unknown if the same is true for their graphics.
All of the items in the following list are referred to as "Mysterious Items" if the DLC is not installed. Some of the Mysterious Items have actually never been found by players even with the DLC, and are for this reason currently considered unused. It is likely that those items were intended to be found in future DLC that has never been released or even made at all.

There is one more "Mysterious Item", ID 297, however, its name never changes, even when the DLC is installed. Its debug name is "ITEM_OTHER_YOBI10". Unlike the others, it has the same model as the unused Materials and no icon.
TMs & HMs
Unused TMs and HMs are listed below.
ID | Debug name | Notes |
---|---|---|
388 | ITEM_WAZAMACHINE_SIDECHANGE | TM to teach the unused move Ally Switch according to the description. |
397 | ITEM_WAZAMACHINE_SAKIOKURI | TM to teach the unused move Quash according to the description. |
437 | ITEM_WAZAMACHINE_DIVING | HM to teach the unused move Dive according to the description. |
444 | ITEM_WAZAMACHINE_TAIATARI | The debug name suggests it's meant to teach Tackle. |
445 | ITEM_WAZAMACHINE_HATAKU | The debug name suggests it's meant to teach Pound. |
446 | ITEM_WAZAMACHINE_HANERU | The debug name suggests it's meant to teach Splash. |
447 | ITEM_WAZAMACHINE_HIKKAKU | The debug name suggests it's meant to teach Scratch. |
Friend Gifts
Gifts for all normal size Pokémon species in the game are present. Gifts for Pichu, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott and Axew also exist, and are not marked as unused despite being unobtainable by the player. Three more unused gifts are present, "ITEM_RECRUIT_010", "ITEM_RECRUIT_011" and "ITEM_RECRUIT_012". It's unknown why their debug names are different from the 36 other placeholders, named "ITEM_RECRUIT_YOBI_" followed by a number.
Team Skill Items
Wonder Orbs
Evolution Items
All Evolution Items from previous games have a slot in the game. Due to the small amount of Pokémon in Gates to Infinity, only some of the evolutionary items are used. The unused Evolution Items don't have proper names in any language other than Spanish, but they do have descriptions that match those used in previous games.
Materials
Materials are normally in their own separate inventory and can't be found inside dungeons, only being obtained as mission rewards or in Paradise. However, they can be hacked in as normal items. When selecting them from the bag menu, a "Send" option can be seen, but nothing seems to happen when selecting it, with the items staying where they are. When placed on the ground, materials have a model that looks like a box. The model uses yellow textures for obtainable materials and white textures for the placeholders.

Music
There are several unused item entries with the debug name "ITEM_OTHER_MUSIC_" followed by numbers going from 01 to 20. Japanse item descriptions refer to tools full of music, that need to be taken to a facility (presumably Music Paradise) to listen to the music they contain.
In the final game, Meloetta says "All you need are the materials for the machine...and the materials for the music..." when explaining what Music Paradise is, but only the materials to build the machine are needed, as music tracks are unlocked by increasing the Paradise Rank instead.
Fragments
The map fragments mentioned in Treasure Shop.

Meta
The debug name for item ID 300 is ITEM_BOX_RENKETSU, being the Link Box from previous games. ID 301 is a placeholder "BOX" entry that uses the same model. They don't have an icon next to their names and using them only causes them to disappear.

The game also includes less interesting placeholder entries for throwable items, equipable items, food, Seeds, "PARAMETER" items, Wonder Orbs, Materials, Traps, and requested items.
The Plain Ribbon is presumably unused in this game, as it's never been found by anyone.
