Original thread title: Shiren 5 official thread

Well, as in every other Shiren game that hasn't been released in USA/Europe yet, this is the thread to comment about Shiren 5. My copy arrived from play-asia last friday (they sent it 2 days before release date) and I started playing yesterday, so I can write my first impressions. I hope I'm not the only one playing this game and there are more people that comment here... so I'm not the only one :P.

The game seems to be an updated version of Shiren 4 (about gameplay).

You start at a village in which you can see a young boy called Jirokichi that is taking care of a girl (called Oyu if I remember correctly). Oyu is ill in bed and can't barely move (she's near death), so Jirokichi decides to go to the Fortune Tower because it's said that in there you can make your dreams come true. Koppa convinces Shiren to follow him (as if you could negate), so you can exit the village and enter the trial dungeon.

- Trial Dungeon = 3 floors.- As in every Shiren game, you have Koppa telling you what you do in a straightforward dungeon (it's not random). If you really die in this Trial Dungeon, go to play other game.

When you finish it, you will enter the town in which you start everytime you die (or you complete a dungeon). Several things can be done in this town:

1) In the Inn where you start, there is a Shop, a Warehouse, a Bank, a place where you see your unlocked skills, and the Rescue center. All these where already in Shiren 4, and there are nothing new in here.

2) In the same Inn, downstairs, you can see a Raccoon place (Tanuki place), in which you can do several interesting things:

- Try your luck: If you spend 500 gitan, you get the option to select 4 different "orbs". 2 of them contains "bad" prizes (riceballs and such), 1 a good item (different jars, normal weapons and shields) and the other 1 is a rare item.

(continue) - Surechigai mode: you can use the wireless connection of nintendo DS to trade items with other people in that mode. But not every kind of item: in this game you CAN CREATE YOUR OWN ITEMS.

- SPeaking about creating new items: You can use an item with a Jar with a rare liquid in the lower-left of the Tanuki place. The next day (when you finish a dungeon or you die), a new item of the same kind will appear! That item is not in the game, and can have lots of new properties. You can put a name for that created item, and even write a small description. After that, this item can appear in every dungeon of the game. The maximum created items you can store, are 32, that will be registered in the Tanuki place. You can create every kind of item: herbs, swords, shields....

3) Outside the Inn, there are some places of interest: one of them is the Befriend Monster Shop. In this game, you can buy special items with the form of "hearts". Those items are expensive, but if you have them in your main inventory, the monster that is in the name of the item won't attack you and will go to kill monsters instead. The problem about this item is that, if you enter a floor in which that monster doesn't appear anymore, it will be transformed into a blank scroll.

4) Dungeons available from the start:

- The "push the statues" trial dungeon: you need to push all mamel statues into the right places to complete the problem. This dungeon is like the Fay's problems.

- The Minesweeper. This is a dungeon in which you need to dig in breakable walls, to reach the stairs and grab the items. There are landmine traps behind some walls, which must be avoided: if you break a wall with a hidden landmine, it will be activated. How to know if a landmine is in there or not? There are numbers in some squares of the floor. The numbers refer to the landmine traps that are adjacent to that square.

Sounds like fun! Do you know if it will be translated?

As nor Shiren 2 nor Shiren 4 have been translated officially, it is unlikely. Shiren 2, as we know, have been unofficially translated, but not completely, and Shiren 4 not at all. But this one is different, because it is also multiplayer, so who knows? But do not hope too much, not to be disappointed.

PS: not Gabikun answering.

Hello, I have a question.
Jirokichi and another party member(girl with cow costume) are killed but I survived. Jirokichi transformed into a tombstone when he died. Now I can find the girl and add her to my group again by paying 1500 gold. But, Jirokichi is always in "Tomb condition". How can I resurrect him to again ?

Throw any kind of healing herb to the tomb. Revival herbs and the advanced version (Yarinaoshi ones) work too.

Thank you , I will try that.
I hope item names are similar to Shiren 4. That japanese weapon/item list will be my only guide to this game.

The majority of Shiren 4 items are back, but you must be careful because there are new ones with similar characters (in bonus dungeons) that have other effects.
Yeah, we should put a new guide to Shiren 5.
(gabikun speaking).

Shiren 5 item/menu guide will be great, and I definietly love to see one. But it may be a burden to you guys

Ahhh, and about the menu... I think, I have disabled the item pick up animation. Or maybe there is no item pick up animation at all. I was playing Shiren 3 on wii and maybe I'm confused because of that.

There is no item pick up animation.
By the way, I've started the Shiren 5 wiki. By now, the only information is the herbs section, though... but at least it's completed ;).

Thank you.
Herbs section is great !
I will never eat all the herbs that I find anymore !!! I didn't know that, they might be so harmful ! (--> ill luck <--)
Other than that, "Fake Reply" is my favorite one so far ^^
