Original thread title: This page...

This page is EXTREMELY tenative at the moment. I want something for information on shiren, but honestly there's so much we don't know, and I'm not mathy enough to figure out the attack damage formulas. I'll post a small link at the bottom of the page with what little info I've managed to acquire.

At 3XX hp you recover 3 hp/turn, so I think it should be 1% of Max HP

Hp gain is not constant. I think it's easier to find out a formula if we do several runs where we write down the actual gain, not the total hp. Exp is constant but i can't see a formula so far. Might be hard coded.

As far as I can tell, Hp gain per level is random, but constant. Random somewhere between 3 and 5, as far as I can tell.

Also, raw damage gain is ridiculously difficult to figure out. Monster defense works against it and weapon attack works to increase this, obviously. The best I can figure is gathering lots of happiness herbs and hitting a mamel a couple times per level to see how much damage you do (damage also isn't one single number, and can vary by some amount) and recording that. Spading this seems like it will be very difficult. Strength's factor in it should be minimized as well; maybe it should stay at 8.

If it is random, then it's not constant!? Also note that if you gain a level, then drop one, the gain it again, your new hp will not be the same as last time. Angband has random hp gains, but calculates all of them before starting the game, so you can't hp scum. In Shiren you could theoretically get yourself a hani type monster and reroll your hp until you get the best roll each level, but it is totally not worth it

I corroborate that HP gain by leveling has some variance; Eurytus probably meant that it remains constantly in the range of 3-5 HP, whether you're going from Lv. 2 to 3 or 50 to 51. Right?

I'll spade this by doing some AWAR while I wait for Hobserk to save my bacon :-)

Eww. The # of turns it takes to recover 1 HP suffers some weird patterns reflecting some fractional additivity to health: in one case, the number of turns needed to recover each successive HP was:
2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, and then repeated. I have no idea what they'd be adding to consistently to produce this. It's also possible that the value is based on maxHP, which I'll be testing by not avoiding Herbs of Life in future tests.

As far as HP Max increases per level, these have been pretty random-looking smattering in the 3-7 range.

Max HP increase --- Frequency
3 --- 4
4 --- 7
5 --- 5
6 --- 9
7 --- 5

It's not a lot of data so far, but now it's archived here for safekeeping and other people to supplement. This was acquired over two runs in Table Mountain while awaiting rescue, one getting to Lv. 23, one to 16. In both cases, I got multiple levels at some point, which led to missing values. I did not interpolate what the average HP value between nonadjacent levels could have been, and instead just started counting again when I next leveled normally.

A Hani might actually be a much faster way to spade *this* aspect :-)

In the second post this thread I guessed that hp recovery is 1% of max hp, what would also result in a pattern like the one described by you. It works by the game keeping track of fractial hp
