So I'm getting stuck on the Trap Dungeon, and I'm not the biggest fan of it (didn't really like it in Shiren1 either). What's worse is that you can't level up or bring companions, so you can't play it "straight," w/o the armband, which is more or less how I beat it in Shiren1.

My main strategy has been to stock up on log traps and boulder traps, leave those in corridors surrounded by miscellaneous traps to up the multiplier in hopes that monsters trip them and die, which works for the first several levels, but they become too weak later on. For random encounters, I either put down some random traps and retreat, and then kill off the monster and gain normal exp, or take off the armband. The main problem is later on around level 10 when floating monsters come along. They're powerful, don't set off traps, and if you want the exp, you have to take off the armband. Since there aren't any shields in the dungeon, you take damage fast, and if you get hedged in on both sides, you're toast.

Any tips/tricks to negotiating this one?

I don't like it either. What I did was leveling up as much as I could in the first 7 floors, by using traps in corridors that couldn't kill monsters (mainly those "wake up" traps) and finishing monsters with x10 experience.
After the 7th floor... going as fast as possible to the 15th floor.
I didn't come back after that :P. By the way, there aren't any shields in that dungeon, except for the Mecharoid Shield (found from the 90th floor!).

Well hell, that worked. It only took one try. A thousand thank-you's, master. :)

I think both Lordgek and I did the same in the trap dungeon :P.
Well, now awaits the Survival dungeon... You only need to reach the 6th floor. Good luck!!

By the way, I will be out until next monday, so, I may access the wiki and comment, but I won't be actualizing anything until then.

Quick question before you go (if you haven't already): how are you taking your pictures? Using an emulator, or a digital camera? I'd like to pitch in if I can.

If you lead a monster into a trap that was already on the floor (you didn't place it), it will not disappear no matter how many times it is stepped on. I can get the multiplier up to max when I find a slow down trap (looks like a foot) and place another trap diagonal from it. I slow down the monster with the slow down trap and make it follow me into the one I set by moving diagonal towards it. Then I lead it back to slow down trap. Then I return to the other trap I set. This can keep going and you won't get hit (except for the occasional turns where the monsters loses the slow status). Using this method I was able to get to level 24 on floor 12.

Good Tip. Also, did you know that if you are wearing the trap armband and you step intentionally into an anchor trap, you do double damage instead of monsters?
