Original thread title: Another Shiren coming to the DS?

Old news, but some people might not have seen it. So, what do think? I think Hell Yes. Hope this gets localised.

Despite the distinct lack of interest, here's more news on the new DS Shiren.

Seems like Oryu and Pekeji will be making a return, but our favourite incompetent masseur is nowhere in sight. D:

And in the face of complete indifference, I continue to post more links. Here are some screenshots that have been released.

Allow me to be perfectly and entirely clear on this point:
More.
Please.
If you hear anything further about this (or the Wii one) I, for one, would love to see it! :-)

If my Japanese isn't TOO rusty, it seems according to the description for the bottom screen that you can use Shiren 3 (wii) to rescue wanderers in Shiren 2 (DS), earning you Rescue Points which you can redeem for equipment in Shiren 3.
They hope that since you can get a lot of equipment this way, it'll offset the risk.

Offsetting risks in Shiren 3? From what I heard Shiren 3 isn't that hard anyway since you get persistent level and can choose to not drop all your items upon death. I'd love to see more info on it but not much is in English. The most I can find is little tidbits of infos from Wii fanboy http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/shiren-the-wanderer/ .The game is released in Japan though, so we can all hope to see this localised. I really love the whole Japanese steam punk look Shiren 3 has going on.
As, for Shiren DS2, since it's a remake of Shiren GB2, I suppose most of the game mechanics will be the same (except for the rescue system, obviously). Unfortunately, not much info in English for Shiren 2 either and the GB versions were never localised.

Actually did you know they had a password rescue system in the GBC version as well? So while the Wi-Fi will be new, the rescue system was going back in '96!
As far as Shiren 3 goes, while I can't read a word of Japanese myself I couldn't wait any longer and ordered it up from Play-Asia.com. To my relief it works 100% with Free Loader (US) and I can even do the Wi-Fi stuff (not sure if I'll do much with this aspect other than snag the new dungeons when released).
Having already stumbled through Shiren DS and Shiren Asuka Gaiden PC (I think this incarnation really seems to take the best of both of these games and add a lot more tweaks) I've already worked my way through about the first third of the main quest with no real difficulties (I can only infer the basic plot points from the cutscenes, but the gameplay is very straight forward). So far it does feel a little on the easy side with the persistent levels, scrolls of escape cheaply bought in the stores, and revival herbs not that rare. The boss fights are dang entertaining so far! While they've disabled most of the cheap tricks in the boss fights (their all immune to gold tossing, herb tosses, wands and scrolls), they're not too insanely tough. I also love how, unlike in the PMD games, most of these boss fights are very tactical with the bosses often being very mobile, cool special attacks, sometimes more than one at a time, and you too are often in a party of 2-3 characters.
Lastly a lot of bizarre new creatures with some clever powers. Oe that comes to mind off the top of my head is this freaky giant tomato/gaze guy that can put you in an all new weird sate! When he pulls off his special attack your level and max hp are cut in half temporarily! It only last ten turns or so but can really mess you up in a fight to be sure.
I'm away from the game until Monday (visiting parents) but I might be able to answer some questions on it if asked.

Oh, I didn't know there was password rescue in Shiren 2. My search didn't turn up any mention of it (but then my search hardly turned up anything). I feel sorry for the people who had to punch in the code with the D-pad. It's painful enough to put in in with the touch screen.
It's good to hear they've fixed the boss fights. Boss fights are a bit broken on the DS, a scroll of sleep is enough to take out the tainted insect, for a start. Good to hear the game can be played with no knowledge of Japanese too, though I can't really enjoy a game unless I can get immersed in the world so I'll wait for localisation if there ever will be one.
One question, about teammates, are they still AI controlled? If so, how good are the AI? Can they still get killed really stupidly by Death Reapers? :P

Fair question and while they are a SHOOT LOAD more intelligent (will heal you, heal themselves, toss herbs, fire wands, and even know NOT to attack a bomb creature about to blow), you can even further refine their actions with these AI parameters (you can even configure each of the three differently) and, not understanding Japanese, I'm not too sure what these various parameters do.
If these improvements weren't enough for you, realize that you can freely change your control to any of the characters in your party and even have the option to control all of them yourself (great when you want to micromange everyone in a Boss fight).

That was me.
And yeah, I know it's not, but that is nevertheless a deeply pleasant mental image.
