Just had to vent. Those murderous N'dubus ( N'dubae?) - they've really scaled them up, haven't they? - scattered around.. And the rebalancing of armor and weapons so that even if you find a Kabra's Blade and Windshield, which aren't all that rare, you'll probably still die. Though I have to say I like the rebalancing in general.

Seems half the time I'm in a high-pressure situation, I use an item and it turns out to be an N'dubu.. and when I get to the next level half my inventory is suddenly populated with them. Excessive. Maybe I'm better off just skipping a few levels until they clear out?

Any tips would be lovely. :)

I had problems with those new N'dubas too :P. They are stronger now comparing with Shiren 1 ones. Here are some tips that both Lordgek and I used:

- First to know: those N'dubas appear from the 4th to the 9th floor (included).
- When you are about to use an item in those floors, be sure shiren is situated with water in his upper square. If that item is a N'duba, it will appear in that water square, so it will warp and won't hit you.
- Fake items will still appear after a while (and not only when you enter a new floor, like shiren 1), so if you enter a visited room again and you see an item that wasn't there before, that's a N'duba.
- If there are shops in those levels, and fake items appear, you can sell them to get extra cash.
- N'dubas can't be inserted in Jars, so if you have items in Jars, they are true items.

And that's what I can remember now. Hope it helps ;)

Well I made it to F20, mostly thanks to a Windshield + Wind Sword combo (paid for the sword with N'dubae :), before being thrown onto a sleeping trap in a monsterhouse by a beetle. Such are the breaks.

Those beetles are more annoying than the Tiger Uhos... Now they can throw you into traps and the traps always activate :S. But good work :), keep going! Only 10 floors more and you will unlock the last 2 dungeons of the game.
Just to warn you: from the 20th floor Purple Slimes and dragons start to appear. In the late twenties, other drain monsters can be found too (Leech worms and lantern fishes). I suggest you use those evil soldiers in 12~14F to level yourself up as much as you can.

Well, I've done a succesful rescue in Edge of the Abyss 97F, so I think I have the necessary experience to try to fill the most difficult tasks of the adventure log: finish the Edge of the Abyss without a weapon or a shield.

It's not very difficult if you find a Power Shield, but I'm now in the 22nd floor and the only shields I've found are a crappy Bronze Shield +3 and an Anti-hunger one (meld). Dragons are starting to spawn, but if I'm at full HP, I can handle them one on one. The good part is that I found an herb of revival and I have a Healing armband, so I can survive a few floors more if I don't start a floor directly in a monster house.

I'm in awe. I wasn't even able to make it with a Kabra's Blade + Kabra's Shield. Playing w/o a shield, or w/o a decent one means taking 20 HP damage per hit from regular monsters, easy. And that's before F20.

I just noticed, by the way, that Kabra's Blades have swastikas on them. I'm pretty sure they do in Shiren 1 as well. Chunsoft has some explaining to do! Hopefully they have a different valence in Japan...

The key is to have patience if you have food or an anti-hunger armband, and stay in the floors in which you can get benefits (floors 5~9 with the plants that transforms items into herbs; floors 12~14 with the evil soldiers to level yourself up, and in floors 22~25 with dragons, that usually drop items when defeated)

About not equipping weapons or shields...you can survive if you fight one on one to monsters, but the truth is that they hit hard. I've used almost every single staff and scroll found in my way. Now I'm in the 27th floor, in which there are those annoying drain monsters. The following floors will be key: if I can level up those plants-eaters to level 4 ones and upgrade my shield without dying, I will improve my chances of surviving.
