Froggo's Fury is a bonus dungeon in Shiren 5 focused on Dirk of Debts and Pauper's Plank. You can't take items, Gitan, or allies into the dungeon, but you can request rescue up to 3 times and you do keep any items you have on hand if you win. The dungeon is daytime only and the initial goal floor is 29 F. After beating the dungeon for the first time, the goal floor becomes 50 F and stays at 50 F permanently.
Gaining Access
You can play Froggo's Fury as soon as you reach the Dungeon Center in Nekomaneki Village.
Unique Features
- All weapons are Dirk of Debts. All armors are Pauper's Plank.
- The only pots are Sale Pots and Preservation Pots.
- Only Sale Pots can be pre-placed on the floor.
- All items except swords and shields start out identified.
- New items do not appear in this dungeon.
- Shops are more common than usual - about as common as they are in Merchant's Hideout
- Pick-A-Choice shops are way more common than usual. (about 1 per 10 floors)
- Elite shops can also appear.
- Difficulty ramp is slower than usual.
- Froggo family monsters appear on every floor.
Final Reward
Every time you beat the dungeon, you are given a Frangible Edge, the ultimate form of Glass Dirk. It has a chance of breaking every time you attack it, which makes it near useless. Note getting Frangible Edge does not give you the level 1 thru 7 forms of Glass Dirk in your Item Book. If you want to unlock those entries, see Level 8 Equipment Easy Trick.
Farming Opportunities
Froggo's Fury has a small item pool, so it is not a good place to farm items, unless you are looking for Dirks of Debt, Pauper's Planks, or Sale Pots.
Strategy
Contrary to the dungeon hint "Gitan will be tight", you are unlikely to run out of Gitan in this dungeon.
You will end up with a lot of extra Dirks of Debt and Pauper's Planks. There is little opportunity to use these extra equipment besides selling them - there are no Synthesis Pots, and Mixers only appear on 30F and 50F. If you are doing the shorter version with a 30F goal, you can simply sell all Dirks and Planks besides you main ones. If you are doing the longer version, price check them at a shop to know their upgrade value (Dirk of Debt base sell 1,050, Pauper's Plank base sell 875), keep the ones with good upgrade values, and sell the rest. Once you arrive at 30F, take your time and use the Mixers to merge all your weapons and shields together. Use up all the grasses you have saved up to this point, and turn them into Runes. Note that Herb, Otogiriso, Heal Grass and Life Grass all make different runes, and they can go on both your sword and your shield. Higher max HP does decrease your HP regeneration rate, so it is debatable whether you should turn a Heal Grass into a Vitalizing rune (+15 max HP).
Sale Pots are very abundant in this dungeon. Aside from extra Dirks and Planks, you will also find lots of mediocre and bad bracelets to sell. Stacks of talismans can sell for a lot, but they are useful projectiles. Staves that have run out are also good items to sell. Of course, there is no reason to use Sale Pots on a floor with a shop, and you will often end up with so many Sale Pots that you have to sell them at a shop. Note that selling a Sale Pot at a shop does not give you the value of the Gitan inside. Sale Pot also won't turn sealed Gitan into unsealed Gitan. You can let a Scoopie throw Dirt in your extra Sale Pots and generate random grasses.
If you can afford to, delay equipping Dirk of Debts or Pauper's Plank until you have both items. The resonance effect causes monsters to drop Gitan more frequently, which helps sustaining this equipment. Each time you attack with Dirk of Debts or block with Pauper's Plank, you lose 30 Gitan times the item's level, but the resonance effect is more than enough to cover this cost. You can also walk on top of Gitan bags without picking them up, then swap items with an item in your inventory to put the Gitan bag into your inventory. (Just don't auto-sort your inventory or those Gitan bags will be put into your wallet.) This lets you hide all the money you find on early floors inside your inventory, which means Froggos can't steal it or teleport. This also lets you use Gitan bags as projectiles, but they heal rather than damage Froggos.
Try to kill Froggos without giving them any chance to steal Gitan from you. You can stop them with Sleep Talisman, Slow Talisman, Seal Staff, Paralysis Staff, etc. Froggos seem to have about a 1/3 chance of stealing your Gitans on any given turn, so fighting them hand-to-hand is not the worst idea. (As with other monsters, make sure you get the first hit on them.) If you are "licked", you lose Gitan and the opportunity to gain Gitan from that monster. You can chase them down to get your stolen Gitan back, but it costs a lot of time / food meter and lets more monsters spawn. Once they steal your Gitan, they cannot steal your Gitan or teleport again, and you can safely approach them.
