Item Transformation is a gameplay element in Wii Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 - The Sleeping Princess and the Karakuri Mansion. The player must first finish the quest to cure the ill Blacksmith, Kumaji. This requires speaking to him, obtaining the Tattered Scroll quest Item, then speaking to his ancestor 1,000 years in the past to receive a new scroll. Bring the scroll to Kumaji, finish the main story, and he'll explain he learned some new techniques from reading his ancestor's scroll. He'll request 10,000 Gitan, as well as a seemingly random item. Players should save before speaking to him, as it's advisable not to muck up your save with a nearly-impossible-to-obtain item.

Item Transformation requires the player to track down many rare Items for their Runes, to transform them into other rare items for their runes. For example, the "Dragon" rune is needed as part of the Kabra's Blade > Kabra Reborn transformation. The player must first obtain a rare Kabra's Blade, then track down a rare Dragon Killer. The player needs to add the Fire Rune from a Fire Dragon Orb, then offer it to a Spirit Dragon Orb, where it will turn into a Flame Sword. The Flame Sword should then be fused to the Kabra's Blade.

Travel Log

Several instances of item transformation are required if the player wishes to fill out their Travel Log. Examples include:

  • Obtained Adamant Pickaxe - Fuse 4 Pickaxes together. (Requires Kumaji to add a Rule Slot to a pickaxe.)
  • Obtained Satori Shield - Fuse 5 Bulky Shields together. (Requires Kumaji to add a Rune Slot to a Bulky Shield).
  • Obtained Firebrand - Transform a Katana.
  • Obtained Kabra Reborn - Transform a Kabra's Blade.
  • Obtained Stormward - Transform a Wind Shield.

Other Uses

Even if players do not care to finish the Travel Log, some of these Runes or items are worth going for.

Several Runes are breakable; these include the

The easiest way to obtain the "Sturdy" Rune is by transforming 4 Pickaxes into an Adamant Pickaxe, which will prevent those runes from breaking the weapon. The Disarm Rune can be useful for destroying dangerous traps or unwanted items. While the Wooden Mallet is relatively common, without the "Sturdy" Rune, it's also a liability as a primary weapon.
