The Ruined Temple (Japanese: 荒れ寺) is a location in Wii Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 - The Sleeping Princess and the Karakuri Mansion. It is is a desiccated temple located on the west side of the Sanuki Forest and west of Otsutsuki Village. It is the desiccated remains of the ancient Tsukiyomi Shrine (Japanese: 月読神社) which was burned down 1,000 years in the past.

First Visit

At the Ruined Temple you meet the leader of the thugs, Jurouta, and find out Tae wasn't really kidnapped but actually ran away. Jurouta and his henchmen decide they want to find out more about the Karakuri Mansion as well. So, they spring a trap, and you are dropped into the Temple Underground where you fight your first boss.

Temple Underground is not a dungeon but only a boss room where you face the Sword Tiger. The Sword Tiger has an attack that can immobilize you but none of the Sword Tigers' attacks are very strong. This should be a very simple first boss fight. Remember to always enter Full Control Mode when fighting bosses. This will give you full control over each character in your party and make boss fights much easier. The Sword Tiger has the boss attribute meaning staves and spells can't be used against it. With only 60 HP and a speed modifier of 1, you should have no trouble taking it out.

After beating the Sword Tiger, you arrive back above and find that Jurouta and his gang have taken off and left Tae behind. You hear some creepy voice talking about Shiren as you leave to return to the village. Tae is returned to the village, and you learn the thugs are searching for the Mansion and they headed up to Hourai Mountain, which is your next destination. To get to the mountain you have to go through Karakuri Pass. At this point, you now have access to the Portal, up to level 5. If equipment is lost, the portal is a dungeon that can be accessed at any time from the world map and is a good place to find equipment should anything need to be replaced. Deeper access and better items will become available in the Portal as you progress through the Story Mode.

Jizo Statue

If you talk to the villagers of Otsutsuki, some of them will mention a headless Jizo statue walking around at night. If you walk up to the temple and over to the left side, you can find the headless statue. Sensei will pretend to be the Jizo while talking in a creepy voice. Koppa will suggest trying to find a way to get the Jizo a new head. This is the beginning of the Jizo Statue quest.

Post-Credits

During the tournament, after facing Mamel ZZ, a person comes up praising Koppa and Shiren for their great feats and asks for a request to meet him at the Ruined Temple.

At the Ruined Temple

You find the man inside the Ruined Temple. He is with someone he calls Boss and a group of other guys. He identifies himself as Sukegoro of the Inobuta Family. He wants you to throw the final fight and says your opponent will know of this. He offers twice the money as well. Tell him you don't want the deal. He wants the hot springs to build a resort here. But, Shiren decides he won't uproot all the people of the village just to let this guy build a resort. Before a fight breaks out, Master X comes out and it seems that he was hired by this boss to win the fight. Master X apologizes and says to bring your best in the tourney. So head back to the tourney to save the village.

After clearing the tanks from the Sanuki Forest

(see Kidnapped (quest) page.)

Once you've cleared out the tanks from the Sanuki Forest, head on over to the Ruined Temple Inobuta Hourai Hawaiian Land Planning and Construction Office. When you walk up to the door, Sensei suggests you stop and listen. Kasuke is trying to get Catherine back but is powerless to stop the thugs. Shiren and his friends decide to step in and confront the thugs. They ask if plans to do something when Kumaji makes his voice heard. The villagers all show up to confront the thugs. Kumaji berates his son and the villagers negotiate the return of Catherine. Upon being released, Kasuke calls her name and rushes over when the Sukegoro asks him what he just called her. The boss finds out that Catherine is his long-lost granddaughter. He talks about a falling out he had with his son 10 years before and talks about how his son and daughter-in-law left with their daughter 10 years before. Catherine refuses to believe that her grandfather would be a kidnapper and turns her back on him. The Inobuta boss declares the Hourai Hawaiian Land officially off and retires to the village to be with his granddaughter. He disbands the Inobuta clan and we learn his real name. Sukegoro. Sukegoro asks his granddaughter for her forgiveness and thanks to the villagers for taking care of her. The villagers welcome him and leave. As Shiren and his friends try to leave, Kasuke shows up to thank Shiren and his friends by rewarding them with the Perfect Blade SE and Celestial Sword SE. The weapons are Sensei exclusive items with a base attack of 17, a max of 80, and 6 melding slots each.

When the quest is all said and done, you can return to the Ruined Temple to purchase movie memories (10,000 G), event memories (5,000 G), and audio memories (3,000 G). For a full list of memories, you can purchase and their prices, see the Memories page.

Notes

I believe Sensei needs to be in the party when you talk to the Jizo Statue or the quest won't activate properly.

Trivia

  • In the data for the game, the Ruined Temple is listed as "AREDERA" which could mean Stormy Temple or it could even be Tempest Temple.
