The Karakuri Rose (Japanese: からくりローズ) is the twelfth boss in the game. It is a machination created by Karakuri mansion itself as it continues to grow and expand through its own mysterious means. This entity appears to be purely mechanical and it is unclear if it is at all sentient on its own, or just an extension of the growing mansion. It impeded Asuka and Shiren's path in escaping the Valley of the Dead.
This boss fight can be overwhelming if you do not mind your positioning, which can be very important here. When the fight starts, you will want to take out the two vines near your characters just to get them out of the way. Then position your characters so that they are not within the same line of the other two vines, yet are adjacent to the main body of the boss. This will make the vines useless against you, as they only attack in a straight line. After some time, the boss may spawn additional vines. If you are lucky, they will be spawned in an irrelevant position, unable to attack you. You can just ignore them if that is the case, otherwise, you will want to consider taking down the new spawns just so they aren't also stacking their damage against you.
Other than the vines, this boss can spray the room with pollen that causes Status Abnormalities, so having at least one Armband of Calm equipped is a huge boon for this fight, and even better if you have one on each character. If you do not, then make sure you have a way to cure confusion or make sure you have a reasonable stack of ranged attack items like arrows and rocks so you can still consistently whittle down the boss despite being confused.
Usually the boss will attack you with its spike missile, which is just a ranged attack that can hit one character anywhere in the room. Or it will use its melee attack Chomp Down. Chomp down will eat any character that is standing directly in front of the boss, on its center tile of the 3x3 square it occupies. It will do damage to them every turn that they are eaten and remove them from the map, making it impossible to heal or assist that character until they are spit back out a few turns later. I highly advise you avoid letting this happen to you as it can easily get you killed. Thankfully, all you have to do to avoid this effect is to not stand on the center tile directly in front of the boss.
As usual, make sure you have plenty of healing items on hand and your best gear equipped. Once you get the right positioning on the two corners of the rose, you should be able to take it out relatively quickly. Feel free to utilize any beneficial Herbs and items and remember that like all bosses, your status inflicting items are only a waste of a turn since they do not work.
