Community:Thoughts on Final Dungeons and their Difficulty in relation to each other
Articles relating to "The Final Dungeons" across the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series. Final dungeons, often called "This games Fay's Final Puzzle equivalent by fans" are the ultimate challenge of each game. They vary in difficulty but they all have the same basic premise. They're a 99-floor dungeon with unidentified items, few to no rescues, and you're not allowed to bring any items in with you. Many of the Shiren titles have gimmick dungeons that might be more difficult than these dungeons, but these are generally just much more difficult versions of the base game story dungeons.

I've recently finished the Final Dungeon (the one with all unidentified items) of Shiren 4, so it's time to compare games... Which one is harder?
- Let's start with Shiren DS, as it's the only one available in English (for now)... and I find it the easiest one. Why, you ask? Easy: you can acquire the Strengthening Jar by normal means (even early on if you are lucky). Melding Jars are not rare too, so it's possible to have uber gear before reaching the "really dangerous" floors (from the 30's). Of course, I'm not saying it's easy, any of you who has played Shiren will agree with me in that it's a very difficult challenge.
- In Shiren DS 2 you can obtain Strengthening Jars too, but can only be found in shops at a prohibitive price of 23.000 ~ 25.000 Gitan. Melding Jars are less rare, and you can use the melding monster in some floors too. Plus, if you manage to reach floors 31~35 and 48~50 with a Happiness Staff, you can use level 4 "pitcher plants" to raise a weapon or a shield you throw at it by +5. There is a lot more grinding in this Final Dungeon, and the "antihunger armband" supports this grind. If you have the patience, it can be "easy" too.
- And finally, the Beach Dungeon from Shiren 4. I've found it the most difficult one. Strengthening Jars are only obtainable in sparkling tiles (you need 9 strength to dig in them) or Game Corners (in which you need to be lucky even if you are doing the trick to win 100% of the time). Monsters are stronger now, even with a defense of +45 there are monsters from the 30th floor that can hurt you badly. Melding monsters are there again, but pitcher plants are no longer in the game, so there are less ways of raising the power of your weapons. In this dungeon, you need to manage your resources in a bigger way than the other 2. - September 23, 2010, 4:47 AM EDT Gabikun
Harpu: Shiren 1 SFC: Fay's Final Pizzle, Shiren 1 DS: Fay's Final Puzzle
from my experience, I think shiren 1 SFC is often viewed as more "fun." It has greater variance, additional items and a lot of silly broken things you can do to make yourself overwhelmingly strong easily. Shiren DS is more "balanced." It removed a lot of the broken things you could abuse, not that you are now incapable of becoming a venerable warrior the monsters stand no chance against. There is a greater item balance though that makes it in my opinion more difficult. I like the quality of life changes as well, such as explosions destroying items, which is not a thing in shiren 1 sfc. Among other things like sleeping animations. I personally feel shiren 1 DS is the definitive version of the game, which took a great title and then perfected it nicely. That is just my opinion. Can't comment about that new cellular game though I do desire to see what the additional new content is. Just really wish chunsoft didn't make it a mobile title. They already have negative opinions about shirens viability and I don't believe jumping into the mobile market with a re-release essentially will alleviate their fears and bring in a ton of new players. I am actually really curious how well received the mobile game is currently - April 24, 2019 Harpu
