Inori Cave is a relatively easy dungeon in Shiren 5 which becomes available immediately after beating Tower of Fortune. If you reach the bottom with all 7 catstones of different colors, you meet an old man who grants you a wish. You can take items, Gitan, and up to 3 allies into this dungeon, and you can keep the items/Gitan you have on hand if you win. The dungeon has both day and night. The initial goal floor is 42F. After initial victory, the goal floor becomes 99F, but you can enter a magic portal which lets you exit the dungeon and get a wish, starting on 43F.

Gaining Access

Beat the Tower of Fortune and look around Inori Village. This dungeon opens up at the back of the Beginner House in Inori Village.

Unique Features

  • Beating Inori Cave lets you enter the Room of Joy and make a wish, if you have all 7 catstones of different colors.
    • The first time you beat this dungeon, the Room of Joy follows 42F directly.
    • After the first victory, the goal floor changes to 99F, but every floor from 43F and on has both the regular stairs and a magic circle. The magic circle takes you directly to the Room of Joy, where you can make a wish and complete the dungeon. However, expert badges are only available if you exit through the stairs on 99F.
  • Both monsters and items are similar to Tower of Fortune.

Final Reward

If you beat the dungeon with all 7 catstones (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple), you reach the Room of Joy and meet a hermit who calls himself the Happiness Prince. The Happiness Prince will grant you a wish in exchange for the catstones.

Wish Effect Notes
I wish for an unstoppable weapon. Get a Kaburagi Sword. The only way to get this item in single-player.
I wish for an invincible shield. Get a Helix Shield. This item is very rare.
I wish to be totally blessed. Bless all items in main inventory. A waste of a wish. There are easier ways to bless your items.
I wish to learn the ultimate ability. Learn the Transmogrification ability. The only way to get this ability. You can only wish for this once.
I wish to play a tougher dungeon. Unlock Destiny's Descent. The only way to unlock this dungeon. You can only wish for this once.
I wish to be popular with girls. Get a Shrine Maid Pot. Don't leave Nekomaneki Village before getting this! From a girl in NW-most house.
I wish to be popular with guys. Get 9-10 David's Bullets. Don't leave Nekomaneki Village before getting this! From "Guy" wandering by Point shop entrance.
I wish that I was rich. Get 999,999 Gitan. A waste of a wish. There are easier ways to get lots of money.
I wish to fight the Reeva Statue. Fight the Reeva Statue. A waste of a wish.
I wish to fight Gendolucika. Fight Gendolucika. A waste of a wish. Only available after you beat him the 1st time on the Old Road.
I wish to fight Jack Wand monsters. Fight 1 of the 7 Jack Wand monsters. The only way to fight these monsters in single-player. Need to beat all 7 to max out the Monster Book.
I wish for the ability to fly. Get a Floating Bracelet. This item is very rare.
I don't wish for anything. Get a Night Ward. The only way to get this item in single-player.

At least 12 wishes (15 including Kaburagi, Helix Shield and Night Ward) are necessary for PSVita trophies and to 100% complete the game. It is also possible to get some of these things by leveraging multiplayer features such as item trades and co-op dungeons. (This forum post and this forum post have more information.)

If you enter the Room of Joy without all 7 catstones, the Happiness Prince will give you an Undo Grass.

Obtaining Catstones

Ways to collect catstones:

  1. Buy them from the raccoon business partners: Talk to the raccoon just south of the stairs on the top floor of the Nekomaneki Village hotel. He will tell you where his business partner is selling catstones, which is often in the Tower of Fortune but can be in other dungeons as well. Go to that dungeon and look for the raccoon on that floor. You will need 3,000 Gitan to buy the catstone, you can only buy one, and it will be a random color. If it's in a location that lets you take items in, consider taking an Escape Scroll or Blank Scroll in with you so you can return immediately after buying the catstone and start working on the next one. Once you buy the catstone, the wandering vendor will move to a new location. The wandering vendor will also move to a different location after a few runs. (Need clarification on how this is updated)
  2. Buy them from elite shops: Catstones appear in elite shops in some dungeons, such as Lost Well and Inori Cave. Lost Well seems to be a particularly good place to find catstones in elite shops, as the item drop table is narrower than in other dungeons, so catstones seem to come up more often. Elite shops block the player from getting in unless they present a Recommendation Letter (Blank Scroll also works) or they are wearing a VIP Bracelet. Catstones sell for 8,000 Gitans each. It is also possible to break into an elite shop and steal the catstonese and other valuables.
  3. Pick-A-Choice shops: Pick-a-choice shops always have a single entrance on the south wall, but are otherwise surrounded by indestructible walls. There are two arrows facing north. When you pay the shopkeeper 1,000 Gitan, the arrows will activate, one of which will send you to a tile with a valuable item on it, and the other one will send you to a Pit Trap that always triggers. The tiny room with the reward and the Pit Trap is reset every time you pay the shopkeeper, and is not visible from the outside, even with Navigation Scroll or Scout Bracelet. After you pay the shopkeeper, you can use a Collection Scroll to draw the reward item out of the shop. Note that you may have to destroy other unwanted items on the floor first, for example by throwing them up in the Pick-A-Choice shop. You can enhance this method by bringing in a Blessing Pot filled with Collection Scrolls and several more Preservation Pots filled with Extraction Scrolls. You can re-bless the collection scrolls after read them, effectively turning each Extraction Scroll into 5 uses of Collection Scroll. (Both scrolls can be replaced by Blank Scrolls.) Note that you will need enough Gitan to cover the cost. This method works in Lost Well and Inori Cave, and possibly Merchant's Hideout.
  4. Dig them out of the walls of Lost Well: There are items buried under the walls in Lost Well. The best way to find them is using Scout Bracelet or Item Detector bracelet. You can retrieve them with a Wonder Pick (or the Max Wall Dig rune derived from it), or a Wall Clip Bracelet. Some other items, such as Rusty Pickaxe and Boring Staff, can also dig walls, but they have limited uses. About ~1% of the buried items are catstones. (Does Collection Scroll work?) (Does Digger Don give you catstones often? See comment)
  5. Beat Destiny's Descent: Beating Destiny's Descent gives you a full set of 7 catstones.
  6. Use Tanuki Passwords: You can get each color of catstone by saying the right secret password to the raccoon near the top of the staircase in Hotel Nekomaneki. You can only use each Tanuki password once.

Farming Opportunities

This is a good place to hunt for night monsters to flesh out your Monster Book.

This is one of the best locations to farm out Fever Pots. It is not uncommon to find them for sale in regular shops in the ~20s floor range. They also appear somewhat frequently in both elite shops and Pick-A-Choice shops. Using the Pick-A-Choice shop in this dungeon is the fastest way to farm large numbers of Fever Pots; see the Fever Pots page for detail. Other rare items, such as Upgrade Pots, Lucky Pots, and catstones, can also be found in Pick-A-Choice shops.

Many rare and powerful items, such as Kaburagi, Helix Shield, and Floating Bracelet, can be obtained through a wish.

Strategy

This dungeon is pretty easy if you have good equipment and are well prepared. The catstones take up 7 main inventory slots, so you will need some Preservation Pots to carry useful items, such as Revival / Undo Grasses, Escape Scrolls, Blank Scrolls and combat items. Since this dungeon has night, prepare a strong set of night abilities at Hotel Nekomaneki.

If your goal is to get your wish as quickly and safely as possible, look for the first Magic Circle on 43F and use it. The dungeon isn't particularly dangerous, but you do need to protect your 7 catstones long enough to reach the Room of Joy, and things can go wrong (e.g. catstones turned to onigiri, or parried away via Field Knave weed attack and lost). If you are missing some runes on your main equipment, you will find Mixer monsters around ~20F, and if you have nothing better to do with them, you can also use them to merge staves and thus carry more magic charges in fewer inventory spots.

If you are going for the 99F goal, the dungeon gets harder after 50F, so prepare accordingly. If you are not going for a wish, do not take catstones in, since they take up inventory slots.

The types of monsters that can appear in this dungeon have not yet been replicated to this wiki. Here are good external resources:

Open Questions

  • Can you use a Floating Bracelet or Trapper Bracelet to avoid triggering the traps in a Pick-A-Choice shop?
  • Can you float over the arrows in a Pick-A-Choice shop while the game is not active, and does this help you in any way?
  • Using a Magic Circle lets you make a wish, but does not let you get any expert badges. Does it increment your win counter for Inori Cave in your Adventure Log / Adventure Footprint?
