Template:Infobox Armbands (Shiren 1) The Pitchers Armband (Japanese: 遠投の腕輪) is an armband introduced in the Super Famicom release of Shiren 1. Wearing a Pitcher's Armband will cause any item that Shiren throws to pass through monsters and walls in the same manner as Silver Arrows. Any item thrown while wearing a Pitcher's Armband will also be permanently lost. This fact makes the Pitchers Armband somewhat notorious among Shiren players, as it is unironically the most dangerous armband in the game.

The effect of this armband is very useful when you use it with care. There are two common uses for this armband. The first is to assist you in clearing out a monster house. You can either opt to shoot arrows or throw items at monsters before activating a monster house or you can activate the monster house and then move back into any lengthy hallway. Wait until the monsters line up and then deal with all of them with just one item use. The second use for this armband is to deal with any monsters currently inside of a wall. This armband allows you to throw items to help you deal with threats such as Death Angels and Death Masters, or monsters of the Pacorepkin family. It can also assist you in dealing with those pesky Fluffy Bunny's.

There are some noteworthy things to keep in mind to avoid disaster when using this armband. When it comes to identifying unknown armbands, one of the first things you should always consider is this armband. Fire an arrow or throw an item you don't care about to check for this armband. This way you will hopefully avoid accidentally throwing something important and losing it forever.

Monsters of the Gaze family are even more dangerous to you when this armband is equipped, as their hypnosis can make you throw any unequipped item, losing it forever. Likewise, monsters of the Cell Armor family will now instantly destroy any item they knock off of you (except if your armband is knocked off, then the effect will not transfer to it as it is considered unequipped first.) You may also want to pay attention to your text log for any monsters you happen to hit when throwing items or firing stray arrows. If you happen to hit a shop keeper, you will instantly aggro them. Should this occur, it is recommended to either immediately leave the floor or stay in your current room far from the entrances and pass turns until you can safely deal with the angry shopkeeper with a staff or by some other means.

It is also important to note that just like with Silver Arrows, items thrown while wearing this armband can still miss the enemies they pass through. This armband produces a myriad of interesting effects with this ability, and they will be noted below in the tips for use section.

Tips for use

All together, Pitchers Armbands can do the following:

  • Any thrown item or projectile will pass through walls and enemies until they reach the edge of the map, then cease to exist.
  • This armband can be used to assist in dealing with Inferno family monsters as this armband bypasses their effect of destroying items thrown at them.
  • Thrown herbs will utilize their effect if they have one on all monsters hit. This includes the damage from a Dragon Herb's fire.
  • Thrown staff's will in the order of monsters hit, activate their effect one at a time for every monster hit by the staff.
  • Thrown monster meat will turn every hit target into the monster, making it an excellent way to grind for a particular meat by turning 1 of it into potentially many.
  • Thrown jars will not shatter upon hitting anything, thus negating all of their possible effects. For example, the Venting Jar will not explode when thrown with this armband equipped.
  • High value Gitan Bag's can easily cut a swath through a line of monsters with this armband.
  • Throwing a Melding Jar while wearing a Pitcher's Armband will unlock an Adventure Log entry ("61. Power-threw a Melding Jar").

The effect of an Pitchers Armband is included in one "rescue reward" armband: the Ace's Armband.
