Biography

Physical Appearance

Chocobo appears as a large bird with yellow feathers. There exist many variants of the species with different colors for their body and behavior, including their feathers.

Personality

While Chocobo appeared through numerous games as a different character for each one, in general, it behaves friendly towards some specific characters.

Name Etymology

The name "Chocobo" derives from a Japanese brand of chocolate malt ball by Morinaga, ChocoBall (Japanese: チョコボール). The mascot for this product is named Kyoro-chan (Japanese: キョロちゃん), a bird who constantly says "kweh". The word (Japanese: ()) is a rough way to say "eat", whose volitional casual form is (Japanese: (), Let's scoff 'em down!), leading to Chocobo's iconic "Kweh!".

In Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon, the protagonist's name is "Poulet" (Japanese: プーレ), which is a French word that translates to "chicken".[1] This name would be reused in PlayStation Chocobo's Dungeon 2.
