チョコボ
Chocobo (Japanese: チョコボ) is the main character for the Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon franchise.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Physical appearance[edit | edit source]
Chocobo appears as a large bird with yellow feathers. There exist many variants of the species with different colors for their body and behavior, including their feathers.
Personality[edit | edit source]
While Chocobo appeared through numerous games as a different character for each one, in general, it behaves friendly towards some specific characters.
Name Etymology[edit | edit source]
The name "Chocobo" derives from a Japanese brand of chocolate malt ball by Morinaga, ChocoBall (Japanese: チョコボール). The mascot for this product is named Kyoro-chan (Japanese: キョロちゃん), a bird who constantly says "kweh". The word (Japanese: 食う) is a rough way to say "eat", whose volitional casual form is (Japanese: 食え, Let's scoff 'em down!), leading to Chocobo's iconic "Kweh!".
In Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon, the protagonist's name is "Poulet" (Japanese: プーレ), which is a French word that translates to "chicken".[1] This name would be reused in Chocobo's Dungeon 2.
