Menu

  • On the first launch of the game, the player can choose a language.

Types

Shiny

  • Returning from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Adventure Squad, Shiny Pokémon appear rarely in dungeons.
    • They can be recruited by holding the Friend Bow in the inventory.
    • Celebi is the only Pokémon to have a shiny variation with conditions; it can be recruited in Mystery Houses after clearing Purity Forest for the first time.

Strong Foes

  • Pokémon with higher stats can appears in one of the twenty-seven available dungeons and are indicated with an icon. If defeated, the team will be rewarded with a great amount of Experience points and a Deluxe Box.
    • Before going to the dungeon, the player can see their weakness type by pressing + on the Joy Con.
    • Strong Foes have a chance of being Shiny.

Bosses and Special Enemies

  • During the Post-Story, every bosses fought before can be recruited. This time, it is indicated with an icon appearing on the right of the dungeon's name.
  • Bosses will have a Mega Evolution segment only after the Main Story is completed.
  • Hazardous moments like Magma occurs in some boss's area.

Items

Locations

Pokémon Square

  • Walking through the Sqaure now changes the camera angle, giving more depth around the area.
  • A shortcut from the Team Base to the Pelipper Post Office is created by Diglett early on in the game.
  • Persian gives a reward once every day after a transaction at the Felicity Bank.
  • The Makuhita Dojo has been revamped. There are two types of gameplay offered from Makuhita:
    • Dojo drills: A challenge mode where only one Pokémon can enter at a time and has a time limit depending on which ticket and how many of them the player gives to Makuhita. Experience points obtained from the dojo are multiplied by a higher number depending on the ticket.
    • Tricks of the trade: Both a tutorial for newcomers and a challenge mode, it trains newcomers to the Mystery Dungeon series its basic gameplay and ends with a bonus if completed.
  • The unlockable statues are now placed behind the Pelipper Post Office instead of being in front of the Rescue Team Base.
  • Smeargle now allows the player to select one of his 16 unique flag designs for the Base.
    • It can be called as many times as the player wishes to without waiting on the next day.
  • Munchlax's cameo event can happen at any point in the story.
    • Upon giving Munchlax any kind of Apples, he will reward the player with unique items or Gummis.

Rescue Team Camps

  • Friend Areas and the Wigglytuff Club are replaced by Rescue Team Camps and Wigglytuff's Camp Corner, respectively.
  • Excluding the boss exclusives, every rescue team camps are available for purchase in Wigglytuff's Camp Corner and do not need conditions for unlocking them.
  • Recruited Pokémon obtain experience points and can gain a level in their camp if they are not participating in an exploration.

Dungeons

  • Dungeons now share the following information in the menu:
    • Pokémon: Which Pokémon are present in the dungeon.
    • Floors: How many floors are available in the dungeon.
    • Initial Level: If the dungeon is limited to Lv. 5 or none.
    • Teammates: If it is limited to 1 or 3 teammates.
    • Items: If the player can or can not bring items.
    • Team: If a team without the main and partner Pokémon can enter the dungeon.
  • A dungeon can now have more Poké and higher chance to obtain a Treasure Boxes from defeated foes. It is indicated on the menu with its dungeon name glowing and an Treasure Box icon appearing on the right.
  • The player can edit his team, give items and deposit or withdraw items and Poké before entering a dungeon in the menu.
    • The player can also see the whole map by pressing Y on the Joy Con.
  • Some dungeons have their amount of floors tweaked in the remake:
  • A temporary dungeon named Illusory Grotto appears only after the player fails in a dungeon.
    • Many reviving and health-based items are present throughout the dungeon.
  • Keys and Locked doors are replaced with Invitation and Mystery Houses.
    • If the player holds an Invitation, a Mystery House will appear within a specific room shape in the dungeon. It is fulfilled with items and an exclusive Pokémon and can appear. Mystery Houses can appear as a small house with one Pokémon inside or as a huge house with three Pokémon.
  • Far-Off Sea and Waterfall Pond no longer require a team member to know specific HMs or have a specific type to be accessed.
  • Oddity Cave, Remains Island, Fantasy Strait and Marvelous Sea can now be accessed through normal gameplay without the need of Nintendo events or Wonder Mail codes.

Gameplay Elements

Recruiting

  • Up to five additional team members can be recruited while exploring a dungeon, for a total of eight teammates.
  • The player can recruit a fainted Pokémon with any kind of Apples.
  • A recruited Pokémon without a rescue team camp gives Poké to the player after completing or leaving a dungeon with an Escape Orb.
  • Fully evolved starter Pokémon can now be recruited which it was not possible in the original game.

Rankings

  • The player can see their accepted jobs by pressing X on the Joy Con in the dungeon menu.
  • Mission difficulty goes from F to 3★ instead of E to 7★.
    • Points given from the mission variate depending on the dungeon and the kind of mission the player chose.
  • Ranking goes from Rookie Rank to Grand Master Rank instead of going from Normal Rank to Lucario Rank.
    • Ranking up gives advantages to the number of preset teams, job limit, camp capacity and toolbox size as well as useful item rewards.

Options

  • A list of every items present in the game with descriptions and tags are available in the Options.
  • The game auto-saves the player's progress anytime while playing in a dungeon.
    • The player can also save their progress on the menu.

Miscellaneous

  • A brand new gameplay element is added to the game entitled Auto mode.
    • Pressing the L Button will automatically move the player and their team until an enemy is around one square radius of the team or the button is pressed again.
  • Using the A Button now selects the best move against an opponent in a dungeon.
  • IQ ranks are now replaced with rare qualities.
  • Body sizes limiting the amount of Pokémon the player can have in his team were removed from the game.
  • Speed is now based on the Pokémon's stats instead of the turn-based gameplay in the original games.
    • Similarly to TM Ability, the Pokémon can attack twice in the same turn if his speed stats are above the foe's speed and vice versa.
  • The AI can now help the team by giving an item to the player or the teammates throughout the exploration.
    • It can be turned on and off in the Options.
  • Linked moves that run out of PP do not automatically un-link the entire set anymore. Now it will use the moves that still has PP.

  • Shiny Pokémon were first introduced in this game then added back in the remake.
  • Enemy Pokémon can evolve inside certain dungeons after defeating another Pokémon.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity

  • Pokémon with two abilities no longer have both simultaneously.
  • Gigantic Pokémon (3x3 case long) are back.
  • Wonder Orbs can be used during boss battles.

Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon

  • The player can rescue themselves if they are defeated in a dungeon in addition to rescuing other players.
  • Pokémon can experience Mega Evolution with the Awakened status.
  • Players can switch leaders by pushing + on the Joy Con, it can be done at any time in any dungeons.
  • Gigantic Pokémon can be used by the player.
  • Non-enemy Pokémon can appear in dungeons and they can join the team when interacted with.
  • Traps that were added in this game are brought back.
  • The player can pre-set teams and the amount of team is increased with the rank.

Pokémon (Mainline series)

  • Pokémon stats, Moves and abilities based from Generation Ⅶ are present in the remake.
  • Type effectiveness has been revised to fit Generation Ⅶ. Ineffective moves no longer deal damage.
