Random?

I still think that the fortune teller says random garbage, which effects how you think. For example she (the smith's apprentice writes "Every time I have to think of something important I think of her" or something like that) said that the winds of Kron were at my back, which made my feel lucky, only to be blasted apart by a spike blast and pummeled by enemies. Most times she says bad things, but nothing bad happens. I wonder if killing her effects what she says.... I shot her with an arrow, then killed her because I had extra arrows on the ground. Right now she's in Canyon Hamlet and won't let me ask her my fortune anyway. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I am quite certain the fortune teller has meaning. I always walk from Canyon Hamlet to Bamboo Village, and make a game of trying to guess what she will say when I get there. There is still a lot of randomness regardless which makes it difficult but there is a pattern to it.

I don't think she affects your luck directly, I think she simply gives you information on an otherwise hidden 'luck' modifier that affects enemy trap and loot frequency. Generally speaking given how many enemies and traps I've run into and how many of those enemies were asleep when I found them, by the time I reach Bamboo Village I can tell broadly whether she is going to say something positive or negative.

The extremes (spring winds or sudden gusts) are easier to tell than the more middling fortunes like cold winds or no wind. This is what makes me so certain there is some pattern to it. A sudden gusts fortune trip will have far more enemies (and I think more traps but I haven't kept a record of those) where as if I'm going through and come across only a few enemies and they're often asleep it's a good bet she'll say either Spring or Guiding winds are blowing.

This is why I think the fortune teller does not affect your luck directly but simply gives you a hint as to what you may be in store for on that journey.

My two cents...
