I believe Square USA producer George Torii worked on Chocobo MD, and then Torneko at Enix USA.
Torneko was on the verge of cancellation because the YVR-based localizer made a huge mess, depleted the budget, and was almost out of deadline time.
Enix Japan said to can it.

I, however, loved Torneko, so I volunteered to do it for DIRT CHEAP over the three weeks left, so George could ignore Enix Japan. I managed to get it done on time (with shoulder surgery thrown in--when I told George, "Oh. You're going to make deadline, right?").
