Back in 2015, Aw_ on Reddit made a post "enemy roles from shiren to pmd and psmd".
We've taken that list, expanded upon it, and clarified. It now covers monsters from Dragon Quest Mystery Dungeon, Shiren the Wanderer, Final Fantasy Mystery Dungeon & Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.

Thanks for curating an oft-misunderstood genre.
When I translated PS Torneko, it was rated "the 2nd worst PS game of all time" by OPM.
I also did the first two gens of PMD (except Sky).
Even last year, a couple PKMN YouTubers who'd never played pissed all over them in a series.

I first played Rescue Team in 2007. Spent my entire summer between middle school and high school playing it. I got Explorers of Time/Darkness from my mother and grandmother in 2008 as Christmas presents. Bought Sky in 2009. I was hooked. I learned of Shiren the Wanderer in 2012.

Somehow that was the first time I'd ever heard of non-PMD Mystery Dungeon games. I discovered the Shiren the Wanderer Wiki. (this wiki forked off a few times to get here.) The community was full of active and passionate fans who helped me get into the game.

I purchased a couple Torneko & Chocobo games. But they lacked the same coverage & fanbase so I never tried to get into them. I always wished it was different. I always wished somebody would make a wiki for the franchise so I could get into these games and learn more about them

Chocobo MD was localized by then Square USA localization producer George Torii, making it the first of the MD-type roguelikes.
He went onto pre-merger Enix USA where he got me to do Torneko, which was on the verge of cancellation.

The Vancouver-based translation company made a total mess of the text, spent most of the budget, and the deadline.
So I begged to do it for minimal pay and on a 3-week deadline so we could beat Enix JP's order to shut it down.

I even had to go in for surgery on a badly dislocated shoulder. I was supposed to be in for two nights, but was greenlit to go home after a night.
I reported this to George, whose first words were, "Okay, will you meet the deadline?"
I called him all sorts of unprintable names.

I finished it on time and within budget with an arm in a sling and getting my pre-teen kids to do my copy and pasting for me.
