I've actually been wondering lately.
Did you have a say in translating Pokémon names? Or what about the monster/character names in Torneko's Mystery Dungeon 2?
I'm ashamed to be an admin of the Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki and not able to remember the localized name. 😳🤣😫

Didn't get to do many PKMN initially.
I did say, "If GF wants to name [one] that, whyn't you let them have it so you can use it as bargaining chip when it really matters?"
Torneko the Last Hope, I got to do all names, though a lot were already holdovers I didn't change.

I was incensed at "AG Devil" when I realized they used the chemical element abbreviation for "Silver."
Also, since I got to the GBC remakes of DQ 1+2, and 3, I retained the names that were in those for DQ Monsters 2 and Torneko tLH.

If Enix hadn't merged with Square, I probably would've had the opportunity to work on more, like Star Ocean...2, was it?
But when the merger happened, Enix USA was shut down for good.
Working for them was terrible with lousy pay and short deadlines, but it was also the most fun.

But yeah, I loved Torneko on SFC, so I jumped at the chance to localize the PS outing.
We managed to get it done when Enix JP was already telling George, "The budget's been spent, and there's no deadline left. Shut it down."

In the interview you mentioned that the people who screwed up the Torneko 2 PS1 translation were credited on 'the Wiki'. I always wondered which wiki you were referring to.

Pokemon spinoffs that I'd love people to play: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red (GBA)/Blue (DS) Rescue Team, and PMD Explorers of Time/Darkness (both DS) -- PMD Explorers of Sky is essentially the same as T/D, but with added content I didn't work on, not sure if I'm credited, either.

The plot of Red and Blue Rescue Team, the Explorers titles and the Adventure Squad titles are truly awful. Full of plot holes and nonsense.
People can't separate "I like it." from "It's good."
Red Rescue Team is one of my favorite games. But Spike Chunsoft can't write a competent story if their lives depended on it.

They just lazily recycled the Rescue Team ending for Explorers.
Grovyle's plan in Explorers doesn't make *any* sense.
Go back in time, steal time gears, becum public enemy #1 and then..... What exactly?
If he didn't *happen* upon meeting his lost friend who just *happened* to have the Relic Fragment to get to the Hidden Land, he'd have been screwed.
Dialga was guarding the time gears pedestal. But why? There was nothing left to guard. Why were time gears scattered all about the world? Why weren't they moved to the pedestal?
Once you bring the Time Gears to the pedestal and insert them, Dialga can be recruited. Isn't he needed to guard them?
I'm not expecting Shakespeare, but these plots don't hold up at all.
The Hero in Rescue Team was given amnesia by choice. To see if they could figure out their mission? They were really ready to play Russian Roulette with the world?
In the end, they went to the clouds, battled Rayquaza. All Rayquaza had to do was look up. It felt the shockwaves. So it's not as if the Hero and Partner were even needed. There was a good chance Rayquaza could have solved the issue without them.

(I'm not knocking the translations, just to clarify.)
They were bad writing from the get-go. Much like with (redacted), when I went back to stories I loved as a kid, I realized how poorly they held up.
I admit that the writing for these games sucks. But I still love them. I still edit the Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki because they're compelling.
I played Shiren the Wanderer 3 for the first time in 2018 and loved it. Then I went back last year, after reviewing 300+ books and good god, the writing is awful. It's still my favorite game ever, but I (un)fortunately have more refined taste in stories now.

The very first Torneko pretty much had no story at all.
Just go explore the dungeon and bring stuff back for Nene to sell at the shop.

Each trip into the dungeon was an adventure in itself, fraught with drama and poor outcomes.
Those games are about finding likeminded fans and commiserating over mishaps.
Like tripping and dropping your Storage Pot in water, tossing a pot through walls with that bracelet on, etc.

🤣🤣🤣 Oh mercy, yeah.
But they can also be exploited creatively. I found a monster that transforms the player into other monsters. So I had it then me into one that can walk over water. I got my scrolls wet so they'd dry out, and turn into blank scrolls.

I just remember screwups like getting trapped in a corridor between two Bomb Crags; multiplying Metal Slimes, corralling them in a corridor, and then falling down a pit trap; that sort of ouch moments.
