Draft:Shiren 5 Vita:Glass Buckler Type

The Glass Buckler family of Shields was introduced in Shiren 5. It bears the Unsound rune. The base level of the rune gives the shield a 50% chance to break when it blocks an attack, but this chance is reduced as the shield levels up. When the Glass Buckler reaches its 8th level, the Frangible Shld, it gains the Stupefying rune, which gives a chance to decrease the enemy's level when it blocks an attack. The Glass Buckler family resonates with the Glass Dirk Type of swords, granting immunity to magic attacks.

Tips for use

The Glass Buckler has the highest defense of any shield, but has a chance to break. The Unsound rune is even worse on a shield than it is on a sword; you can at least equip the Glass Dirk until it breaks and then switch to a different sword, but if you're surrounded by multiple enemies, you can get attacked on the same turn after your shield breaks.

However, this shield can be made useful by sealing it. This disables all runes on the shield, so you are left with a very powerful shield that doesn't break, but can't use any other rune effects either. This also makes it easier to level it up for the Item Book. Of course, it still is a terrible main shield if you can't use runes, and there is also the downside of the upgrade value being negated. But if you're in a dungeon where you can't bring items, it would take many floors for any other shield to come close to the raw defense power of the Glass Buckler.

The resonance effect is good, but because it requires you to wear glass equipment, the Swap Shield Type's Magi-Twister rune is a much better way to protect yourself from the effects of magic.
