Grasses (Japanese: ) are edible items that appear in Shiren the Wanderer 5 and 5 Plus. There are thirty-four variants of them in total.

Grasses exists in all Shiren games, but this item category has been called "Herbs" in earlier games in the series. The terms grass, herb, and seed are interchangeable.

Grasses are single use consumables. The primary way to use them is to eat them, but you can also throw them at monsters, allies, or other characters to affect them if you hit. In addition to its main effect, consuming any grass also gives you 5 food value.

Grasses can be blessed or sealed, but not cursed. If sealed, they cannot be eaten, and does 2 HP of damage when thrown without any additional effect. Blessed grasses generally have double the effect, including the food value.

Revival Grass and Undo Grass work differently than other grasses, as their primary use is that they trigger automatically and revive you when you collapse, turning into Weeds in the process. Undo Grass also offers you the choice to escape the dungeon. Eating Revival Grass or Undo Grass produces no effect. Blessed Revival Grass and Undo Grass use up their blessing instead of turning into Weeds. It is possible to bless them again and get more uses out of them. Being revived by either Revival Grass or Undo Grass prevents you from getting the "win without collapsing even once" expert badge.

Gut Grass and Repeat Grass are the evil twins of Revival and Undo Grass respectively. Both of them will also trigger when you collapse, but they don't do anything. The order in which these items trigger seem to be Undo > Revival > Repeat > Gut, with the earliest copy of the same item triggering first.

Since many grasses are also rune ingredients, the runes appear in the chart below. As many common grasses make good runes, it is not a bad idea to try to mix them unidentified anytime you find a Mixer monster; not only will this often make a good rune, but it will also formally identify the grass type if successful. See Identifying Items for more info.
