General Information

A Weapon is the most reliable way of dealing damage in Shiren 1. Shirens Strength statistic and bare-handed punching quickly become useless upon hoards of Monsters.

Upgrade Value - Can be upgraded to equal Max Upgrade value.
Base Strength - Weapon power independent of upgrades.
Max Upgrade - Maximum upgrade potential number.

All weapons have an unalterable base power value: Base Strength, and receive additional power through upgrades, in which all weapons have a set Max Upgrade value which cannot be exceeded. The Upgrade Value number is shown next to the weapon name as +[Value].

A weapons Upgrade Value can be increased by +1 by reading a Air Bless Scroll with the weapon equipped, or by paying a Blacksmith 1,000 Gitan. Both methods can rarely increase this value by +3 instead of +1

Combining weapons in a Melding Jar will add the Upgrade Values of multiple weapons together into the first inserted, as long as the Max Upgrade value has not been exceeded.

Weapon Seals

Some types of weapons have inbuilt abilities (Seals), with various effects, including:

  • Increased damage against certain types of monsters.
  • Performing Critical Hits.
  • The ability to dig through walls.
  • Creating Meat from defeated monsters.

Melding Jars can combine many of these Seals into one item, creating an insanely powerful weapon. If a weapon with two 200% damage to a specific monster type seals hits a monster of both types, 400% damage will be dealt (normal damage is quadrupled). Floating-type is the most common in monsters of two types, therefore the Air Slayer Seal File:Shiren 1 DS Weapon Seal Air.png is one of the most useful.

Curses

See: Curses

Weapon Seals do not function while the item is cursed but the upgrade value will be preserved and still function for attack power. Once equipped, the Weapon also cannot be normally removed.

Rusting

Triggering Rusty Traps and Green Slime Family Monsters can decrease the Upgrade Value of weapons and monsters level 3 and 4 can remove Seals.

A weapons minimum upgrade value is the same number as its Base Strength, but negative. Eg. a Fragile Edge has a Base Strength of 20, but will continue to decrease until it stops at a minimum upgrade value of -20.

Grey Slimes and Red Slimes

The [Gld]File:Shiren 1 DS Weapon Seal Gold.png Seal will be removed first, then the other seals in a random order. When attacking, your weapon or shield will either rust or have a seal removed from it.
Green Slimes: Decrease upgrade value by 1 each rust.
Purple Slimes: Decrease upgrade value by 2 each rust.
Grey Slimes: Decrease upgrade value by 1 each rust and can remove seals.
Red Slimes: Decrease upgrade value by 3 each rust and can remove seals.

Exceptions

  • Golden Blades can never rust because they cannot lose their inherent [Gld] Seal, though other weapons with this seal can rust by Grey or Red Slimes.
  • Cudgels cannot rust by Rusty Traps, but can rust by Green Slime Family Monsters (all levels).

Weapons cannot lose their intrinsic ability, e.g. a Dragonkiller cannot have its [Drg] Seal removed, however the [Drg] seal can potentially be lost if this shield is melded into a Polearm or another Weapon other than a Dragonkiller (or Dragonkill X).

Buying and Selling

Base Price: Weapon cost without added inherent Seal Price.
Upgrade value price: Upgrade Value of weapon (+ive or -ive) x Buy+ (or) Sell+ value
Seal Price: No change whether buying or selling.

Equations for Weapon Price

Buying: Weapon base price + Upgrade value price + Seal Price(s). (total x 0.9 if cursed)

Selling: (Weapon base price x 0.3) + Seal Price(s) + Upgrade Value price (subtract if value is negative) (total x 0.9 if cursed)

When checking the 'info' of a weapon with multiple seals, they will be listed in the above order. The breakable Pickaxe [Dig] Seal and the unbreakable Pickaxe Seal [Dig] are mutually exclusive.
